If you are on logs, you are only allowed 2 hours in the right seat of Off duty. The rest has to be logged as On Duty.

If you feel uncomfortable with him- he's a CDL instructor, not a trainer- call your Fleet Manager, and request to have him replaced. While many experienced drivers do other minor tasks while driving, checking text messages on a handheld cellphone is illegal and disabling the lane departure sensor is a violation of company rules for employees or lease operators. It certainly is a bad example for a CDL student. The only way for really bad instructors and trainers to be eliminated from the program is for the training staff to get feedback on them when this sort of thing happens.

its been argued to death in other threads, bit plenty of teams and trainees ride in the upper bunk while rolling.

If this trainer is so bad then whey don't you request a new trainer and ask to get off at the nearest hotel till new trainer arrives?Im confused about your last sentence,do you feel it was wrong to pull out of rest area while raining?

Besides a cluttered dash, this is my all time worst pet peeves, looking at the atlas while driving.I have told many ppl off and a few of my trainers. They wanna look at the map then pull over and write the route down or if your co driver is awake give him the atlas.

That is why I avoided going to a company CDL School and training.. it sags right there on their websites that new drivers can become "trainers" in 3 to 6 months.. so it is pretty clear that getting quality training was a crap shoot.. I paid $5000 of my own money to go to a private CDL School and then through patience and diligence found an O/O with over 20 years of driving to take me on and train me.. my life and career choice were worth the investment and time..

Don't expect to get top notch training.. but, yes you can change trainers if you feel that the one you have is really that bad or dangerous.. but, do keep in mind that won't guarantee you get a better one..

Also, when you are new and training it is a huge adjustment to being in a truck with another person xfor 24/7.. you will get on eachothers nerves and it takes a lot from both people to make it work.. it is important that you don't allow yourself to get to a mental and emotional state where you are looking for and being bugged by everything...

You can argue it all you want, but the trainee belongs in the driver's seat, and the trainer in the passenger seat, except for swapping out every now and then to give tghe student a break, or show them how to make a certain manuever. No one ever belongs in the upper bunk while rolling. Also, no student belongs team driving before their training is over, period. How do you show someone what to do, or how to react, or explain things along the way that come up, or critque things like lane management and evaluate following distance....I could keep this going, but a trainer should only be sleeping when the truck is stopped. Ever.

Wharf Rat is 100% right.. I just went over with the O/O that is going to train me how my training will go.. he said I would be doing the driving and he will be in the seat.. if, he is driving, cause I needed a break or for bad weather and he needs to get us to a safe place I am to be in the passenger seat learning..

When we are rolling, my bunk, the top bunk is to be folded up.

He said that when I get to the point where he feels safe to sleep while I drive.. then my training is over and it is time for me to get assigned my own truck.. or, if we get along good we can talk about running team together.. but, again, my training is over and we would talk and negotiate running team.
