Does this guy drive a burnt orange freightliner?
If so, that guy loves showing everyone how he "fools" the lane departure system. If it's the same guy that I'm thinking of, he had to take the instructor course a 2nd time for reasons he wouldn't say, and was apparently not by choice.
previous driver of my truck had paper towels stuffed between the departure speakers and their grills. I made sure to note it and point it out specifically on my checkout sheet.
Prime will fire you in a heartbeat for messing with any safety equipment. For those bozos who claim they can do what they want as a Lease Op, read your lease again. You wouldn't be the first L/O to get the boot for messing with that stuff.

Nope Not orange. I drove a few hundred miles today.. and got some good practice driving up a lot of hills. He's been better today when he's driven.. although our lane monitor is currently in the "disabled" position.

I think you owe it to yourself to get the best possible training you can.. I would have concerns if on day 1 my trainer was teaching me things I could get fired for.. that tells you a lot about him right there..
I agree that the lane sensors seem redundant since you should be scanning your mirrors constantly and know your la.e position... I think the sensors build bad habits.. why look in the mirrors.. just listen for the beep..
I look at who is training me.. and ask myself if that is the type of driver I want to be... If not, then I would look for another trainer...Skydivedavec Thanks this. -
This is kind of why I was hoping not to get a lease operator for a trainer. He was stressed out on the first day because he got me and a delivery 2-3 days away and I think was flustered and not sure wth to do and still make the delivery on-time. I pretty much drove all day today and got some good mountain experience and he's been very patient with me grinding the heck out of his gears while I learn to downshift... So I gotta give him credit for that. By the end of the day I was getting a lot more gears on the way down, so I musta learned something. I'm gonna ask after we deliver tomorrow if I can do some backing somewhere.. If I don't start doing that then there's gonna be problems.

Any updates on how your training is going?

You do understand that you're going to get 2 or 3 days of concentrated backing practice on the pad in Springfield before you take your drive test? Right now you need to concentrate on learning to drive the truck, and memorize the pretrip procedure.Skydivedavec Thanks this.

No I had No idea about that .. the only thing I ever read was that our trainer would help us get some practice at delivery spots etc. As time permitted. No one else that I am keeping in touch with from my class knows that either. Anyway I hope that's true.
Pre-trip is easy enough. Tomorrow I'm driving all day as I didn't get any driving time today. We are crunched for time though, I'll probably let him drive if we get behind schedule as I'm Not gonna drive 70 with our current load.
Have several pictures of him from today reading his Atlas again as we went down the mountains in the rain.. checking qualcomm texting his wife... -
Typically that's what most instructors do... get your backing practice back at the yard. Doing it on the road is harder because you have to have a place to do it (disrupting a shipper/receiver's business isn't a good plan) and the time as well. If you have some time between loads, and you're at a quiet truckstop, ask him if you can get some backing practice in.
Practice that pretrip, and make sure you understand what you're looking at, and looking for. It's not as easy as it seems. Pretty soon you'll need to be looking at your truck, and ensuring it's safe to drive. You should be doing a pretrip on your instructor's truck every day before you start.Skydivedavec Thanks this. -
Nothing like self incrimination. Snap away.
Use the photos and You both could be in trouble.
Students phone is supposed to be off and in the bunk during instruction time. Or did you forget about that company policy?
you wouldn't be the first instructor and student combo to be let go at the same time. something about two wrongs don't make a right.
you possibly also wouldnt be the first student picture phone rat let go while the instructor keeps his job, gets a warning and banned from instructing for a year.ethos, racerdad and Truckergirl0720 Thank this. -
Whatever man.. I'm Not gonna bicker with u about that
d o g and Skydivedavec Thank this.
