This guy hasnt even opened the Hood since we left Missouri on Saturday. I open it for my Pre-trip practice But he doesn't ever look inside.
We picked up a new flatbed trailer the other day and I did a friggin inspection on it myself because he wasn't checking the brakes or anything.
Call me paranoid But I personally would like to know that a piece of equipment we never saw before at leas try as brakes before we leave the yard? -
I like these "soup" questions. (REF: Finding Forrester) Small problems should be pointed out if you come across them. Out of Service faults will be repaired before you test. The examiners will not test you in a truck that will fail a DOT inspection. A chip in the windshield is not one of those faults until it becomes a crack in the drivers view.
As far as the rest, we are all here to help YOU succeed. Criticism comes with speech. Take it for what it is and hopefully learn from what we are telling you. I am sure that there are a few of us who will follow your posts as you go through training. If you have any other questions or need help, don't hesitate to ask. You might get a bit of an earful, but you will get what you need. I hope you sat down and had a good discussion with your instructor.Bkkphotog Thanks this. -
Is it possible that he is trusting you to check the engine compartment during your pretrip? I trust my students most of the time.
Is it possible that he inspected the trailer while you were out of the truck, in the bathroom or somewhere like that? I cover alot of my responsibilities while my student is in the truckstop or bathroom. I don't want to stir interest in areas my student is not ready for. (sending load macros and stuff like that, doing paperwork, ETC) -
Thanks SE.. I actually know I have a lot to learn and I have a lot of questions. But my trainer is frustrating because he doesn't explain things at all. Everything seems like It's nit important to him.. like the cracks in the chips in the windshield he doesn't explain at that point they will be an issue. He just told me pretend they aren't there.
We actually get along pretty Well... But I'm Also trying to focus on Not training indefinitely for No reason. He seems to understand that, But he's Also a LO and there's very little time for real training. I still don't think that is too much to ask to have a little bit of actual training everyday... We do have enough hours left over everyday. -
He's Not interested in it at all trust me. We go inside the same time everyday so far. We eat together, we go inside together we come out together. Yesterday he finally said Oh darn I should probably at least check the oil level. He just is Not doing it. Fortunately the truck seems to be OK But I'm No mechanic. Lol. There is oil or something on the steering gearbox... But It's Not actively leaking. It's a lot more covered in stuff than any other truck I've looked at so far though. Again, No one really taught us this stuff in depth so I feel like... OK there's grease or oil on the gearbox, my sheet says it shouldn't leak... So now What? Lol. Look it up on Google I guess
In the morning he doesn't even leave the truck check the lights or nothing. He starts the engine.. checks the gauges foe a bit.. goes inside to pee and were off?
I don't wanna be the know it all student and be like umm shouldn't you actually inspect your ##### truck, But I just had it drilled into my head that this should be fairly important so I'm getting crossed signals here... -
Also, I was gonna buy a flashlight yesterday because we've been leaving early in the morning, and he said don't worry about it you can just practice when it gets light out on our 30 minute break.

Maybe you should ask for a new instructor. Keep taking notes and keep trying.

Heading Florida to Wyoming tomorrow... Apparently we are gonna hit snow somewhere? Nervous if we gotta go through the mountains. Lol

Just read what the book says about driving in snow it has all the answers.
