Wasn't there a move a few years back to ban CB radios, too? Something about the government wanting the frequencies for military use, I think?
My company has banned ANY cell phone usage while driving.

Kinda like driving too fast for conditions, huh? Why do we have to tell people that it's not a good idea? Laws protect the innocent......from the idiots!
-
Either way, personal responsibility. You either choose to do what is safe or you don't....regaurdless of what anybody else might say.
Speed limit says 35 on a mountain 2 lane. I usually go about 5 under. Why? Because that is what is safe for what I am doing. If I was in a Porsche....I would be doing 60. Personal responsibility...know your limits. The gov't can't dictctate common sense....nor should they. Laws mean nothing. You either choose to obey them or not. We all break laws on a daily basis. Because we choose what is right for us. I don't understand why people are so willing to accept the nanny state. I don't understand why people like others telling them what to do and how to do it. Nobody can tell you what is best for you, that is a descision you have to make for yourself. I like freedom, others can't handle it.MUSTANGGT, dukeofearl and KO1927 Thank this. -
id like to know why its so horrible to talk on a hands free device but its ok to talk to someone in the passenger seat.
its also ok to put on makeup while driving.dukeofearl Thanks this. -
I don't like the sound of that at all Scuby... if they keep piling on the regulations on us, it'll take a team operated truck just to legally get anywhere on time and that would mean hardly ever getting any good rest while the truck is moving.
If you don't voice dial then you are a hazard on the road. I use my voice command all the time. I rarely ever dial a number anymore.
So, if I sign this paper and, in a moment of weakness on Christmas Eve I answer the phone from my dying mother on her death bed. Then, while on the phone I am hit head-on by a drunk driver who bends my front axle and causes me to fatally crash into a bridge pillar. Totally NOT my fault, right?
But, because I've signed that paper I AM legally at fault when phone records show that I was busy bumbling with my phone when the drunk driver ran into me therefore voiding, in part, his responsibility of the crash and voiding my family's FULL legal rights to ALL due compensation of my death. Not good.
Look, we are professionals aren't we? I'm tired of being dumbed down to suit a paranoid public politician's score card. I fear they want our profession dumbed down to suit a lower workforce and pay rate for us all.
Think about it for a sec, in the near future you'll have to insert your license as a key in the dash to even start your truck. Then, your odometer panel will be a large GPS/qualcomm screen that will plan your trip for everything you can and can't do and also translate to any language with turn by turn instructions. Cameras will monitor your eyelids to see if your blinking slows. Your cell phone will power down when in motion and speeding and HOS violations will automatically apply to your DVR. Your CDL will be your logbook. Trucking companies will be able to hire highschool drop outs or inmate release programs from any country and no one will ever drive illegal again... and we'll all be safe RIGHT?
I doubt it

They probably will ban the microphone on a CB, Canada already has a 3 year plan in place and the US will follow suit
-
does this include hands free devices?
-
I'm sure there is a link on it here somewhere. Canada's 3 year plan will ban any CB microphone other than hands free. The reaon for the 3 years is to allow manuf. to get some microphones out for purchase

The part that gets me upset on this one is all the people that are EXEMPT, The boys in the tuxedo pants can be on the computer. watching radar and talking on the phone. I believe 90% of this is to do with insurance costs, If they find you are on the phone or other devices, you and the company are done, if you have an accident. Just a thought!
-
Most of us don't. But the government thinks we do. After all, the government knows best. The government is all wise. The government is uh never mind!

There are, have been and probably always will be fights over frequencies. There is a finite amount of frequencies available, but it seems an infinite amount of folks who want to gab. Or text. Or code. ETC!
To the OP: Looks like you will probably need to sign that paper. Once you sign it, it is just one more way they can screw with you. Of course if you DON'T sign it, they will screw with you.
Ya know?
