I refuse to buy anything with AMD in it. Had one a few years ago, and it was nothing but problems.

    I've ran AMD pc's for years. Ne'r a problem, unless I tried to overclock them...and I toasted a couple ;)

Most problems associated with AMD are heat related, caused by poor chassis design and not enough horsepower in the fan department.

An AMD will fry in a heartbeat under extreme heat.

Yep. This. However; with proper cooling, AMDs are great procs.

I'm not running a laptop fanpad on mine at the moment. I have a simple stand which elevates and tilts mine. It's a mesh design to reduce air flow restriction. I haven't had any issues with it so far.

I do recommend a fanpad though. Especially if you notice a bit of excessive heat. It's cheap insurance. Whatever processor you're using, it doesn't matter.

My last one would get rather hot, but it was a poor chassis design. I had to clean it regularly to prevent loss of airflow.

For my home towers. It kinda looks like over kill when it comes to cooling.
It sounds like a 747 taxi'n down the runway, during a heavy gaming load LOL

If the hole is big enough to stick a fan in....I got one in it.

    Another vote for AMD; three desktops, one laptop, no AMD problems;
Now if I could just figure out how to turn them on.......

I've had good luck with the AMD on this laptop as well.

As to the comments about Best Buy, I can completely agree. Unfortunately I bought this laptop there a little over two years ago. Since then I've had to take "advantage" of the three year extended warranty at least 4 times. The last time, I finally decided to spend the $150 to have them back up my hard drive (which was working just fine before I took it in to them). I got a call the next day from them saying that the hard drive was destroyed (I believe their actual words were, "it's in pieces inside there") and there would be no way to recover any of my files from it. They gave me my money back (in cash surprisingly enough) and replaced the hard drive under the service protection plan. Didn't do any good for my lost files, though. I now back up all my pics on Photo Bucket and will be purchasing an external hard drive as soon as I can spare the extra $100 for one.

The other repairs required at that time for my laptop (which were the results of the thing being stolen and then recovered by the police) totaled more than I had originally paid for the service plan. Now that I got my moneys worth from it, I'll never use them again for ANYTHING!

What kind of backup tools were they using?

    A Black and Decker sledge?

Ya know....a good external HD is cheaper. I'm sure you're aware of this by now LOL

My son ask for a Terabyte for Christmas...I was like WTF ??? You already have 2...what ya need a third for ???

Kinda makes me wonder, whether he's down loading Senoir Citizen porn sites or something.

I think it was made by Milwaukee tools. :biggrin_255:

I knew that then, but the problem was that my battery was dead and my AC adapter had been damaged by being left in the rain (the laptop was recovered in an alley after two days of rain). If I could have powered the thing up for just 10 minutes to copy C:*.* to the external drive, I woulda bought one. However, the Cheap Squad wouldn't allow me to do this.
