Don't think he said anything about splitting berth, just saying hos rules need adjustment.
And splitting sleeper is stupid; never seen where it could have helped me.

I feel you. There are lots of times I wake up, and I'm wide awake. But wait, need to sit here or wonder around the truck stop for 2 hours, cause I can't drive yet. And this makes me tired.
I sleep at lots of shippers or receivers now, where before I'd stay at a truck stop on the edge of town or something, cause you can't afford to start your clock.
It's pretty awful. You can make it work, but it is awful. I've done a few one eyeballers when I had to shut down when WIDE awake, then couldn't sleep, then the machine tells me I'm safe to drive lol.Last edited: Oct 28, 2017

Split sleeper advances
I am looking forward to the widespread calamity.spyder7723, Justrucking2 and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
As long as tampons and toilet paper make there way to market, nothing will change. It's when things begin to actually stink, change will be in affect.
DOGSLIFE, longbedGTs, Rugerfan and 1 other person Thank this. -
He started his break around 19;15 and said he'd be too tired to drive 8 hours later at 3;15.spyder7723 and scottied67 Thank this.

Yes, it’s the HOS that is bull####.
And it isn’t so much “cheating” as it is reconfiguring my available hours to fit real life. I’m not trying to run 1000 miles per day with extra paper logs.
I’m trying to prevent dumb #### like having to drive through Dallas or Atlanta at 5 pm by taking a nap and waiting the traffic out.
I’m trying to prevent dumb #### like ending up in an area at 01:00 where I know there is a strong possibility there won’t be any parking.
I’m trying to prevent dumb #### like getting up at 03:15 when I know I won’t be able to stay awake when the sun pops up.
Not to mention elogs have turned me into an occasional speed demon with no ####ing patience whatsoever. I used to drive 65 all day long, take naps, stop to eat... then log it all later to make it fit... not anymore.DOGSLIFE, longbedGTs, snowwy and 9 others Thank this. -
No, no, no. HOS mandates it's much safer to drive through these major population centers surrounded by maniacs, than to go in the middle of the night, which is the way I did it pretty much for years, but who am I?DOGSLIFE, longbedGTs, stuckinthemud and 2 others Thank this.

You don’t seem to understand the way the real world works. Pickups and deliveries aren’t all sunshine and roses.
I arrived at the receiver in Grand Prairie at 23:55 for an 08:00 delivery. It was almost 11:30 before they came out and cut the seal on my trailer and backed me in.
They unloaded me and I drove 4 miles to the shipper in Dallas where, as you can see, they burned up quite a bit of my clock.
Then I had a nice hour and fifteen minute drive through rush hour, 33 miles to Fort Worth.
How is that my dispatcher’s fault? BTW, I own the truck.stayinback, Trucker61016, stuckinthemud and 1 other person Thank this. -
I absolutely will not risk not being able to find parking.stayinback, austinmike and stuckinthemud Thank this.

That’s the way it was under the old 10/15 rule. You could split as long as the sleeper berth time was at least 4 hours.stayinback and gokiddogo Thank this.
