Being retired I was glad I didn't have to worry about that mess. Just needed to bring taxes to verify spouse and dependants.
That number seems to be pretty low. Keep a few things in mind.... Swift has over 15,000 trucks on the road. Counting teams, nearly 20,000 drivers. If everyone stayed 5 years, they'd need to replace 4000 drivers a year. Swift is a training company. I've seen estimates that half of new drivers (fresh out of school) don't make it through the first three months of running solo. Then a bunch more go to other companies after 6-12 months. That's a lot of new drivers that don't last a year. Finally, Swift is expanding at an incredible rate. They are picking up dedicated accounts all the time, and each new account needs drivers. I wouldn't be surprised if this expansion alone needs 3000 drivers a year.
The mega companies have an epic amount if turn over. Sometimes I think the sheer numbers are hard to comprehend. They are constantly shuttling new drivers into an old drivers truck. This is partly why many big companies are buying newer automatic trucks, because they are beginning to run out of people who are willing to learn a standard transmission truck. And the way I see it, the more students who come into the megas and only learn how to drive automatics make those who can shift manual transmissions more valuable. That's something to look forward to in the next few years, especially as smaller (5,000 units and under) companies continue trucking with manual transmission equipment. unloader
Out of CDL school I went to concrete driving a stick and learned how to float their. I drive an automatic now, I don't think it would take me very long at all to be able to float again.
No. I went to a four week school but it was approved. Next step is Crete can take you with 4 months OTR experience. Good luck to you.
I had my first class last night and I noticed a poster from Crete, so I asked the owner of the school if Crete hires from the school. He told me they do and that his school is the only one in town that they will hire from. So that's a positive.
Wow, Swift must really be growing to need so many new drivers; must be the driver facing cameras! Crete is getting driver facing cameras which must mean they are growing fast also and need 100's of new drivers each week!
