Geez and I always complained about just having to get my cars smogged every 2 years out here in Cali. Didn't know all the hassles you had to go thru back east. Guess I had it easy lol.

I did some calling around and ordered my parts, I'll pick them up in the morning. $50 for BOTH parts! lol Next time I get home I fix it, hopefully I'l get home before the Registration exspires...the computer system wouldnt let me do it because it wasnt inspected.....They must have fixed it! lol

When they first switched over to this electronic stuff, there was a communication problem between the inspection stuff and the DMV so they had no idea weather or not it had been inspected....so smart people just lied and said yes....but now they seem to have fixed this ####!

They had the same issues with smog stuff here in Cali a while back. It used to be when you smogged your car they gave you a certificate to take in to the DMV. Now its sent electronically.

A car or light truck can not get a new sticker in NC unless it has a current, fresh, inspection. The inspection goes into the system, and is checked electronically at the tag office. You can not get around it. You only have so much time arter the first attempt to repair the problem without penalities. A car dealer must inspect a car before it is offered for sale. It does not matter if you had your car inspected this morning, and traded it in the evening, the dealer must have it inspected again.

This is something to think about when buying a 1996 and newer car from an individual. There may be several hundreds of dollars of things wrong with the emission system that keeps the car from passing inspection. Instead of repairing the car, they dis-connect the battery to reset the check engine light. You buy the car, go to get it inspected, and bam, you're out who knows how much. At least with a dealer, the car must pass inspection. Re-setting the ECM doesn't get by the inspection process. The engine has to run through all it's test and drive cycles, and show no codes present, before it will pass.

Ya now....as of Jan '10 you could go in and register it and they would say "the computer says you have 30 days to inspect your vehical" and you say "ok" and leave and they would never say anything or you could do it online without any problems. But now you are correct with this stupid system...

I had a guy try that crap on me, and after I took it for a test drive and brought it back to him I went back to my truck and got my snap-on OBDII Scanner he was like "whats that?" took me all of 30 secounds to find out it had recently been reset and that was all I needed to know. I said no thanks and left :biggrin_2559:

Yeah, I moved to NC from SoCal (couldn't stand more than 8 years in SoCal) and figured most things would be cheaper, then I started getting raped by the state and county because I owned a couple cars.

Yeah here in Fl as long as it rolls it's legal! If they put an inspection law into effect 80% of the population wouldn't be driving! You should see some of the crap rolling down the interstates down here!

That is why when buying a car from a private sale or a mom and pop lot, you have to test drive the thing for at least 15 minutes or so. That CEL will come right back on and you'll know if you are dealing with a dishonest buyer. Even going to Autozone and reading the codes with the seller in the car is better than risking that.
