Sounds like you're having a great time, AT. As I predicted, you're doing fine! I can't really give you any pointers about the orientation there in Conover, but what has been said already by thoughtful posters above is good info for you.

The 10 days will fly by and before you know it, you'll be under your first load.

    AT,

I was wondering about the shifting patterns myself. Chris was going to post the patterns but I know he is busy. He said there were gears, RPMS and speeds that go together and had to be memorized. The way you descriped it sounds like the way I already shift, except for the holding the RPMS at 1600. I usually let the RPMS drop to about 1100-1000, clutch, rev to about 1500 and at the same time drop it into the next lower gear. Thanks for posting this information. If there is a shifting pattern could you post it for all the new guys and gals and myself. Whenever NJ MVC gets there act straight I will have my test and be looking forward to joining W&S.

First half of the day myself and two other guys went out on the road with RL to do our City Driving, some of those turns were TIGHT lol but I made it through without Hitting or rubbing anything, Ground a few gears hear and there....

Then after lunch we were back on the yard with RL doing some backing, which is one thing I'm very good at so no problems there (Not that I wont take every bit of practice I can get) but we came right back after class (the same three of us from last night) to keep practicing backing and shifting for like 3 hours. Out of the 10 of us I think there is the three of us are the Only ones coming back to practice :biggrin_25513:. We're planning on spending all day Saturday and Sunday there practicing if they'll let us.

    3 Down 7 to go! I can't wait!

Check out Chris's post #39 under "Running with Watkins and Shepard". He posted the shifting chart when he was in training.

Keep it up AT! Don't let up for a minute, and keep practicing.

Are the other seven guys in your class so talented that they don't need any practice? I figure every new driver can use a little extra range time. What can it hurt?

    Go get'em AT.
