If I am not mistaken, congress included that in the most recent highway funding bill. A mandate for EOBR. Basically, it is now up to the FMCSA to issue a rule that can get through the courts. That shouldnt't be too difficult. In my opinion, the "harassment" argument is a stretch. In my opinion, every CMV will be on elogs in the next 5 years.

hey, no problem anything related to open deck is fair game here. the eobr has a ways to go yet, it was in the bill but landry and rahal got a bill passed to remove funding for the eobr for 2013, after that who knows. but in fact the way the requirements the bill has for eobr's, those eobr dont exist yet, the current electronic logs and quall comm's do not meet the criteria the bill requires.

read it carefully and that will become apparent, many simply dont realize an e-log can be edited, even on line 3 at the office. they are far from fool-proof.

that being said, at mercer , there is no excuse for getting stopped and your log not being current, and they are entirely correct in that.

yep, oscar is right they did require 97 and newer for a short while, but then found they were excluding many good operators.

and the harassment is not a real stretch, there are already guys being beeped and told they have hours left, drive the hours then sleep. that to me is harassment. cpape , the way you guys operate is far different than how some of these other guys operate.
i have several friends and relatives have drove or still drive for some of the bigger carriers, the crap they put up with is unreal.

That definitely would be harassment. It blows my mind that a company would tell a driver that he had to drive just because he had hours to do do. That is what is wrong with the whole HOS. I would like to see more freedom given to drivers to determine when they want to driver, but the bad actors force regulations.

I'm buying my first truck, 2005 Kenworth W900L complete with VIT interior, gauge pack, and studio sleeper. I'm looking for a good company that will allow me to pay her off. I'm afraid to run for Landstar due to their only 65%. I need intel about Mercer, good solid information. I'm planning on going through OOIDA for my insurance, and plan on running my own base plates after my 1st year. Please give me all the details. Good or bad. Thanks.

current HOS sucks, I cant take breaks or naps because then I'm punished by having less hours available to work even though when I take breaks and naps I'm much less fatigued...

flats are much better than vans at mercer, both flat and van are 75 per cent though because you have your own trl at mercer. frankly the kentucky based ins for physical damage is hard to beat as it includes windshield replacement with no deductable , and i cases like deer accidents there is no deductable, and mercer requires you to run their base plate, you can run yours until time for renewal. but since they pay the fuel tax it benefits you to run theirs, and for x amount of loads, x amount of revenue, no accidents, no claims you can get up to 700 bucks off your plate plus if you have a fuel tax credit they will apply it to your plate, even though they pay all fuel taxes.

Unfortunately, they cannot legally require anyone leased to them to run their base plates, ask OOIDA. I did, that's how I found out. Also, as they instructed me, the more you pay for yourself the better off you really are. I'm concerned more about pay and how they operate.

Give them a call, I did when I was thinking about leasing on with them. Everyone is really nice & very forthcoming with info. I think I talked to Jeff. They can give you fleet averages and specifics on contractors revenue in your area.

I'm afraid to do that because I do know many recruiters lie to recruit. Swift did that to me, so did Nihart Transportation (leased to Landstar). That's why I'm asking actual drivers. I need to be able to finish off my 3 year payment structure, owning this truck is the most important aspect of my life and my career.

I understand, but i can tell you they are a great company. Search for the Mercer thread on here, also check out their facebook page. The Mercer website has alot of info, such as % to the truck, ins rates, etc

When you search the Mercer thread you will see who here is leased with them, shoot them a PM. Finding a good company to lease onto is all about finding a good fit for you.
