Actually not at all. Id say 97% of the loads are timed perfectly. Meaning, not too much or too little time on the loads. My next load is balls to the walls, but I don’t mind running hard like this from time to time.
Another thing Holland does — not sure if it has been mentioned — they will “split your load” for payroll cutoff. Payroll cutoff is 0930CST on Tuesdays. All trips need to be in then to be paid that Friday.
However, In other words, if your load doesn’t deliver until the day after the payroll cutoff, you can request to have the miles you’ve run up to that point on that load to be paid on that Friday , and then, pay the remaining miles on the following pay period.
This is quite common because a lot of loads, given the distance, well surpass payroll cutoff.
Lastly, I’m pretty sure they give you the choice of weekly or biweekly pay in orientation. It’s up to the driver to decide which pay cycle would better meet their financial obligations, if any.

Those long hauls make reefer trucking a lot more profitable and enjoyable for the driver, only averaging two docks a week is nice. Thanks for the information @IWX6279 . This is the way OTR trucking should be done.

My pick up in Gaylord, MN went without any hitches. They’re a direct customer for us and typically always a D-N-H.
My delivery is a live unload in Buena Park, CA Friday, and that customer is always a pleasure — Always fast unloading.
Last thing, it’s far to point out that although we’re a reefer carrier we don’t deal with a lot of lumpers. I’d say 75% of our unloads you’ll find that the lumper fee is prepaid, or the facility has their own folks to unloadLast edited: Aug 13, 2025

####, i completely forgot about this thread. I've been local for the last 2 years but now I'm looking for an OTR job again. Anyone have a recommendation For a good coast to coast company or midwest to west coast carrier? Preferably one that doesn't check DAC, i got a 3rd lane violation warning in michigan and now it's on my dac.
Knucklehead and JForce28 Thank this. -
However, I have to respectfully disagree that "it's easy to make over 90k per year while having decent hometime."
Holland pays low CPM, but they have unbelievable coast to coast runs that no other non LTL company will have. That's their business strategy, and honestly probably a fair one because no other OTR company in 2025 will give you that (coast to coast runs) consistently.
You yourself said you make $0.545 CPM, which is on the high end because another poster on this thread several months ago said they offered them $0.52 CPM to start out.
What is there for a bonus, $0.04 CPM quarterly or something like that, and that's going to be with 1 day off per week to achieve that.
So if you're at $0.545 CPM, let's say you hit that $0.04 CPM bonus all 12 months. You say it's easy to average 3,200 miles year round, I respectfully disagree because:
1. winter
2. The annual Jan/Feb freight slowdowns (you can see from years ago in this thread it slowed down at Holland for a lot of drivers during these months, this is also an industry wide thing)
3. Breakdowns and #### happens
4. Elogs and governed at 68 MPH
Let's put that annual weekly average miles to 3,000 per week for the year. Let's say you take 1 day off per week, so 52 days off per year.
52 days off per year / 7 days in a week =7.429 weeks off per year, let's round up to 8 weeks off per year.
52 weeks - 8 weeks hometime = 44 weeks worked
44 weeks worked X 3,000 miles = 132,000 miles per year
At the high end of $0.545 CPM with a $0.04 CPM bonus, that's $0.585 CPM:
0.585 CPM X 132,000 annual miles = $77,220 annual gross pay
So that's $77,000 gross for the year with 4 days off per month.
77,000 gross / 52 weeks = $1,480.769 per week average when you include your 1 day off per week.
$1480 weekly gross pay / 70 hours worked per week =$ 21.143 per hour straight pay with no OT
So am I missing something here that on a base pay scale of $0.52 - $0.55 CPM and $0.04 CPM monthly bonus, with 1 day off per week you're looking at about $74,000 - $77,000 gross per year?
Again Holland offers what no other non LTL company can and like you said they have countless positive attributes, but don't you think realistically, unless you're one of the few drivers who somehow manages to take less than 1 day off per week on average, that you're probably getting around $74,000 - $77,000 gross per year? Rather than "easily grossing over 90k per year"? Is detention and breakdown and a couple of holiday pays really going to take you from 74k-77k to over 90k?
That math doesn't add up to me. All that said, again, thank you for the thread and Holland does seem like a great place. I just wanted to throw those numbers out there.Last edited: Aug 13, 2025

Again, I stated that Holland seems like a great company. I had time on my hands and ran the numbers and discussed them respectfully. If you work for Holland, I specifically stated that I meant no disrespect with my post, it's just a casual discussion. I'm sorry if my post upset you, that was not my intention.
Have a good day.Lonwolv54 Thanks this.
