I'm not aware of dump truck load boards. Usually that stuff is done on bid basis. Be advised, it can be a cut throat business. You would be better off putting a truck on with someone that already has a hauling contract and is looking to put trucks on. There are very few OTR dump contracts, unless it's some specialized material. Most are local jobs.

Yea I didn't think so. Wish I could think of other questions to ask you cause you seem very experience in dump trucking. Are you an o/o? What sort of stuff do you haul? How did you get started and how do new guys find work?

I was an O/O years ago, but that was intermodal stuff. I did a lot of dump truck work, but it was always company trucks. I did just about anything you could haul in a dump truck. Asphalt was probably the best. I guess dump truck is kind of exclusive, as years ago, I started on a tandem dump, mostly trial and error, worked my way up to a tractor trailer. Not many companies will do that anymore, as they want skilled drivers right away. You might find a company that would train you.

Is there a difference in a bobtail dump and tandem dump? I'm pretty sure this guy that is hiring me will be training me on belly dump/end dump, all of them. I stick with him for a while and get some experience, might land me a high paying dump truck job somewhere.

Ah, you've got me there. Not sure what a bobtail dump is, but belly or end dump is pretty easy, either it drops out the bottom or gets pushed out the back. The real tense stuff is when you get a 30-40 foot frameless up in the air, and material gets stuck, although, the dump trailers I pulled were frame type, but still had some tense moments. Just about everything in Wis, is quad axle dumps. You can haul almost as much as a trailer and get around a lot easier.

Well wish I lived up where you are so you could hook me up with a good paying job. But I'm a greenhorn so I can't be real picky. Just hope I'm making a good decision, if everything the man tells me is true then it'll be great getting 70 hours a week. I also asked the secretary if they are getting 70 hours and she told me that since nothing is a guarantee, they are very busy right now, and last I talked to him he said if I want the hours, they're there. He did butter me up a little bit by saying he needs some professional looking guys like me to represent him and he needs guys that want to work. He told me he's got stacks of applications from people he's just not going to hire as they would make him look bad. Just need to suck it up, take the risk, and go the direction I'm wanting to go.

I'd stay as far away as I could from a broker in the dump truck world. I've yet to find one that isn't crooked. Do a good job for certain operators and don't be a typical 'dump truck driver' and by the time you decide to get your own rig if you're lucky operators will request to have you come if the company uses lease trucks. Example, Figure out how to spread good and you will make the blade hands happy and want you hauling for them vurses the guy that leaves big piles and holes when he's spreading road base.

Yea this job sounds very promising. I just pray he is telling me the truth cause while I'm building me and my wife's house, I can't be lied to about pay. My bank gave me the ok to change jobs it's just a little scary. Only reason why I'm so skeptical is because a few weeks ago I applied for a dump truck job and it sounded legit. Until a few things started sounding off, he was 24 and said that I'll be hired by one company but working for him. He told me that he owned 2 dirt pits and was well known all over the country in the dirt business. Something seemed very wrong to me. Then last week the actual boss called me and left message for a job that was 60% driving and 40% warehouse work. So I was completely lied to by that kid and almost made a horrible decision but divine intervention occurred and told me to run. And that's why I'm a little skeptical. But this man seems very honest. And this is the trucking I want, just hope it doesn't bite me in the arse.

So I fully plan on accepting the job as soon as my drug test comes back. Here's something I've been doing a lot of thinking on. And I'm not sure if any of you guys have any experience in my situation. But I'm currently building a house. I've been approved and the house is under construction. I've talked to the long term bank that we will be closing with and she said I can change jobs so long as I stay at $14 an hour. Here's the problem, the man wants to start me off at $13 an hour, I told him my situation and he told me that he can take my overtime pay and apply it to my 40 hour pay which would only be $40. So I told my bank that I will be making $14 an hour which is a half truth. I almost feel like I should tell her the whole truth but I don't wanna blow this job opportunity. My wife also got a $2 an hour raise so I feel like that would cancel out my -$1 an hour. What y'all think I should do?
