I paid $800 in taxes end of last year but as it works out I'm getting $800 and some change back. For this 1st quarter I paid $3000.

As long as I decide to stay in trucking, I will buy a truck this year and should be able to get my paid taxes back. I'd rather spend money on equipment than pay it in taxes.

Paying taxes is actually a good thing i know i know we all hate paying it however if your paying taxes it actually means you making some good money.

Just remember not to sell yourself short even if you are making more than you have before, if you run smart/hard you can get your self into the $2k range as a solo driver. Not every week but it can be done if you are willing to work for it. I did $2,3k last week and will do over $2 again this week.

Yea, it's mixed feelings. On one hand sure ots good to make enough to need to pay a decent chunk in taxes, but I'd rather not pay it..lol

I'd rather buy a truck or even a trailer vs giving the money to the tax man.. even if I'm not ready to use it yet.

I should have been more specific. How much revenue do you shoot for to end up with $1500 net? Thanks for your time.

That depends a lot on where you are running and your fuel expenses. I'm usually in Penn/NJ every week so my MPG suffer and tolls hurt.. Typically to do $1,5k I need to be over $4k for the week. It's hard to gauge though because fuel/tolls can eat up those profits.. I'd say on average I spend $2,8-3,3k each week to run the truck. So add $1,500 to that cost gets you around $4,5k to the truck as average to make $1,5k. The thing is, once you hit that $3k every load after that should be profit, so pushing as hard as you can those last few days makes a world of diffrence. For myself I just run hard all week.. I don't wait till the end of the week to hustle, I hustle all week and I do 34hr resets fairly often if I'm tired or don't want to run on recaps.

If you can stay out of the tolls and hills then obviously the truck costs go down. Typically for me to see $2k clear I need to be in the $5k to the truck range. Example last week did $5,5 to the truck, my costs were $3,1k so my profit to my bank account was just a tad under $2,4k.

Na, I'm still too new and catch myself doing dumb things from time to time. Even if I wanted to train, I'm not at the stage where I'd feel comfortable doing it. Not that I do dangerous stuff or anything like that but being in my 1st year I feel that's too early to train on the driving side IMO.

As for training in general, I really hated the team side when I was in training. I need to get out of the truck walk around and so on. That 3 months of training I hated it because it was like the truck never stopped and you rarely had a chance to have any freedom.

Honestly, that's why I'm pushing so hard now, is I want to have a truck that I own before my year is up so I dont need to run as hard as I do. My lease truck is just a way to get myself to that position its just a expensive tool.
