you know I didn't realize that Ashley took inexperienced drivers.....

It's kind of luck of the draw. If you know sombody it helps. If they have an open truck and want to put sombody in it they will as long as you are employable, have a license, and pass the road test. My mom and step dad retired from there.
**this is the way it was when my mom and step dad drove for them, could have changed, this was 2005. -
I am not sure about anywhere else--but their facility in Leesport pa(outside reading)has a standing ad in the paper(everyday)--I load near there quite often--and Reading paper is in drivers room and have seen a 1/4 page ad in there every time I am there for the last year or so--they advertise it as a $65k job!
Just my $.02trucker43 Thanks this. -
I loved working for Ashley Distribution Services Ltd. I worked out of the Colton, CA warehouse and ran the western states. My first year I grossed between $62,000 - $63,000, my second year I grossed just over $62,000 however I took 3 solid months off under the FMLA plan. During my 3 months off the company used my assigned tractor for 1 week. Seriously after 3 months off I got the same tractor and it was driven less than 3,000 miles. My third year I was on target to earn about $75,000 however was terminated on 7-3-07 for getting into a yelling match with a yard driver. If anyone is reading this at corporate my assigned tractor was A25087. My first 3 months I was in a leased tractor, then received a brand new tractor with my name on the outside, inverter, refrigerator, table, cd player, power mirrors, power windows, polished aluminum wheels, lug nut covers, etc, etc. The equipment is top notch, and maintained at very high standards. I have not driven since being terminated by Ashley however I plan on driving for someone else for a year probably SWIFT(yuck) then applying at Ashley. There is a chance that I could be rehired and would feel blessed at the opportunity. So what is wrong at this company, Mandatory excercise... you must tailgate the freight. All loads originate from the Ashley warehouse and consist of furniture being delivered to furniture stores or warehouses. heaviest item is around 300 pounds but most stuff is 40-100 pounds, purchase a hand truck (cheap one from harbor freight $30 is just fine) and learn how to move boxed furniture as well as sofas and it is no problem. Most loads are 5-10 stops however I think you get paid more for stop pay than for actual driving so the more stops the more money and no need for a gym membership. You must know how to drive in tight spaces as some customers are difficult to get to. Home on weekends and can almost always stop by the house at least once a week. Ashley would reimburse for 1 hotel room per week I think up to $100, allowed you to fuel at any location, Company provided cell phone with complete vehicle hands free kit mounted in truck, NO Computer or tracking device on the tractor, Governed at 70MPH, Paid actual hub miles, and you choose your own route, usually drive back to the warehouse empty, ocassionally maybe once or twice a month you would pick up something and drop the trailer at the warehouse and head out again, otherwise you were driving back empty(yes paid). The only times I heard of drivers leaving Ashley was to go work for Wal-Mart because they were tired of moving the furniture.
trucker43, spackopotamus, The Challenger and 2 others Thank this. -
Rocknroll Nik,
Not only do they take inexperienced drivers, they reimburse you for your trucking school tuition. I can't say anything bad about them, besides a few rude dispatchers from Wisconsin.
'Olhand,
I promise 65k a year is accurate, with up to 80k a year easily possible and never gone for more than 2 days. Most I ever stayed out was five days due to a holiday and bad weather, and it happened once. No weekend work either.trucker43, rocknroll nik and Lilbit Thank this. -
The phone number is 1-800-876-1920. The head of hiring is named Nancy Evanson, but I don't remember her extension. Very nice and very professional.
