Leannamarie, I had to laugh when I read your reply to me! Very good point made, indeed. That's what I get for re-inserting a comment referring to a post that was made several days ago, and many posts ago! However, I just HAD to put my 2 cents worth in. I worked for KLLM for almost a year, and I encountered several incidents of them trying to compel me to run illegally to get a load there on time.
Once they even put such a request on the qualcomm, telling me not to take my break at all just to get a load there on time for them. Drivers, I realize that once in a while we must fudge a little on our 11hr driving, and 10hr break. Especially when we are trying to find a safe place to park for the night.
But, a driver that fudges by logging on another's log book, or runs without a break, is going to get in ALOT of trouble someday. And thats no joke. It just isn't worth it. We get hung out to dry by the companies for that, and its prison time for such violations.
The fines are astronomical as well. As I mentioned in a previous post, those kind of violations invite very close scrutiny and monitoring by the DOT, towards that company in the future when the violations are discovered by them.
And that makes our jobs even more uncomfortable.
Alot of reefer companies try to compel their drivers to "do whatever it takes" to get the loads there on time. I know, I work for one now that tries that on me continually. Just be safe out there everyone!

The fact is that the trainer should have called the company, explained the situation and either had the appointment moved or arranged to swap loads with another driver who could get the load delivered on time.
Rix is very right that driving on another driver's logbook *is* illegal and you do so at your own risk.
I hope this clarifies things for you.

I am renting a car to drive down, my recruiter said they will pay up to what the bus ticket costs. I figure I'll be out of pocket about 20 bucks which is worth it to me, I'll be in Jackson Sunday evening. He told me the same thing that they are now paying 32cpm and no tuition reimbursement. He also said you get an extra $50.00 for hazmat loads.
A friend of mine went through KLLM's orientation 2 weeks ago and is out training right now. He had a guy in his class that had just left Warner, the guy said Warner was so bad he had a friend pick him up at a truck stop, he called KLLM and was able to get into the orientation.
I am very happy to be going with KLLM, I'll see you in Jackson.Belton Bandit Thanks this. -
I just heard on a trucker news station that several big companies, one of them being Schneider, did the same thing: dropped starting pay for newbs 2-4 cents a mile, no more matching 401K money, and no more tuition reimbursement. This leads me to believe that KLLM did not just do this as a desperate measure to save cash, but rather as a calculated move realizing what the trends in the industry are, namely more people are looking for jobs, freight is slow, etc. Obviously it is no coincidence that these companies all announced the same action at the same time!
On a personal note, I am out with my trainer at KLLM riight now and will be back to Jackson soon to upgrade! I can't wait.

This has been a very informative thread and I am going to give KLLM a call. I have 5 years local experience but have not drove a truck in about 4 and a half years. I still have my CDL and all endorsements. Does anyone know if you need a refresher course or will they send you out with a trainer to get get your feet wet in trucking again?

Yeah sounds like Werner doesn't even care about their turnover. When I called the recruiter to say I decided to go with another company she asked "what does this other company have that we don't offer?" I told her the reputation for the company I decided on is much better and that I don't like how high the turnover rate is with Werner. She said "Ok....that doesn't make much sense, but whatever." Then she pretty much hung up on me. Yikes! -
ROADTOAD, Yes, it did clarify things. Thanks. As I mentioned in a previous post, you ARE refreshingly intelligent, honest, and articulate. Just wanted to clarify my opinions about YOU. Hope you don't mind.

Good luck to you both!! I haven't been able to chat much on here lately as I am out training. So you guys will be in orientation at Jackson on March 2nd? You will like your instructor. His name is "Woody". He is basicly a retired truck driver/safety department head who is very knowledgeable and has a great sense of humor. He makes the class enjoyable. The Super 8 you will stay at has free WiFi if that matters to you. There is also a Walmart within walking distance of the motel so you can buy last minute items before you go out with your trainer.
I will be in Jackson myself to upgrade on March 4th. If time allows I may stop by and look you guys up. -
I called recruiting yesterday and they said they are not hiring anymore experienced drivers till April.
