I was watching your shifting video and you said you didnt have a way to mount a cam to see the tach. If you had a smooth dash (or smooth spot) you could get a cheapo Phone Suction Cup mount from the TS and film it with your IPhone in the mount just bent back over the cluster.

Now if you get a good mount (Pump suction mount) like mine you can put it on anything even textured surfaces, but they are crazy exspensive. I got mine so i can mount my cam on the outside of the truck and not have to worry about my $500 cam bouncing down the highway lol

mitchtazz do you or have you ever trained new drivers for knight? i've heard on this post that if your not from the terminal that your at that you get treated like a redheaded stepchild when it comes to work on your truck or needing assistance of any kind. have you seen this in your time with knight? whats an average miles you get weekly? being short run or long haul

nope, never trained for Knight, and most terminals i visit are still like that.. it's not so much as the terminal but more as a few people within the terminal.. they act as if you were there the day before yesterday and should know how it operates. shops will work on your truck, but they seem reluctant as if it's not really their primary job, but more of a secondary assigned task. and i average 2400 a week with seventy five percent being short hauls.

    Hey Smaggs,

First post here, just getting started with school. I don't want to be a dick at all, but just so you know, if you turn your iPhone sideways when you shoot a video, it will shoot horizontal without the black bars. Took me a bit to figure that out on my VZ 4S I got a few months ago.

Thanks for all the great posts and videos. I just got out of the Air Force and it was nice to have the same kind of advice before I went to basic training. You do all of us new guys a service.

I have some money saved up from bonuses and such while I was in and I'm thinking about driving for a year or so then buying a truck. In your travels, have you spoken to many O/O that have good / bad things to say?

I was thinking Landstar as I heard many good things from drivers that came to pick-up / drop-off on our base. They all have to have HazMAt because it was explosives, and Landstar requires it, but I have also heard that in the end you end up making about the same as a company driver. I guess having your own truck and your own rules helps some though.

    Thanks again!

    Glad to have you!

I don't have the 4s. No matter which way I turn my phone, I get the bars. I did my shifting vid with my MacBook pro.

Rolling to TX. Will be on later.

Has it been upgraded to iOS 5?

You may try the screen rotation lock. Also, I'm not sure as I left my phone at home today, but if you use the front camera instead of the rear it may not be able to be rotated.

Anyway, thanks for the videos. I have never driven truck in CA, but everyone can feel your pain there. :biggrin_25525:

Thanks for the info Smaggs. I know there is alot of BS associated with all bottom feeder companies, but some seem better than the others. Just need that 1 year, so maybe its worth all the BS that Knight seems to give as long as you're getting paid on the regular. Thanks again.

Seems like i'm having one of your weeks Smaggs. Loaded somewhere in New York and delivered somewhere in New York, reloaded in New York and brought that down to Columbia, Sc, reloaded in Gaston, Sc and took it to Tampa, Fl. That load was off by 2pm and then told i would reload tomorrow in Lakeland down the street from the terminal with delivery in Dublin, Ga. So i took the truck to the terminal and went home for the night.. Woke up in the am and took the truck to get loaded and headed for Ga. Made it an hour away from receiver and shut down for rest of day (picked up Sat, wasn't supposed to del until anytime Sun). While sitting at truck stop, sent message asking for a preplan, dispatch says no freight just yet. I said ok will deliver around 8am. morning comes and i roll to receiver, HA!!! find out shipper gave me wrong release number for load, can't get unloaded. Let dispatch know and there's nothing they can do about it till monday. Head back down highway to truck stop and this is where i've been since noon Sunday.. Still waiting on release number. think i have about 1600 miles for this week...ha ha ha ha.. stuff is crazy man.
