I dislike elogs. I make them work for me, but it's nice when dot lets me go when they see my sticker.

    It's very much a love-hate relationship.

Now just why didn't you say all that to begin with? I happen to agree with most of what you said there. But no, you said that every "real driver" should hate elogs. Look, I'm not a huge fan of elogs and there times I wish I could just throw the qualcomm out the window but they are here to stay. Too many drivers got into accidents while running illegally and the insurance companies put there foot down. I actually don't mind the elogs so much as I mind the way they implemented the HOS, the 8 and 2 hour split is asinine.

Oh and just for the record, your info says you joined here last month and that you've only been trucking 0-1 year. That makes you a rookie.

Hey Smaggs, I've enjoyed reading your travel logs.

    Rider Policy?

Hey I have a question about Knight.
What is their rider policy? and what are the associated costs, and is there a limit to the amount of time a rider may rider with you during a year? Does the rider HAVE to be a "legal" family member?

Their website is fairly vague, and other outside blogs or forums are all over the place about details.

I have a fiance whos job takes her away from home a lot, but she may be making a serious career change so that we can spend more time together. Maybe full time with me on the road.

She's not interested in getting her own CDL at this time, but down the road who knows?

I'm in a CDL school at CEU here in Price Utah, and will be getting my license very shortly. I feel I am at the top of my class, but I still will be without any actual CDL driving experience.

I'm looking for a company who will
#1 take someone fresh out of a training school
#2 allow a rider if not 100% of the time, a very serious portion of the time
#3 allow a rider at a "reasonable" cost... it shouldn't cost me more than $100 a month just to be with my significant other.

Knight will take you fresh out of school.

Your rider can only be immediate family, MARRIED spouse... not engaged.... not dating.. you have to provide marriage documents, too.

You can only take your rider for a few weeks at a time. There's a time limit per month or quarter, I forgot how it works. You pay 12 bucks a month if I'm not mistaken.

I can't take anyone. Not married and no family in this half of the country. Makes for boring runs.

Makes sense. But knight doesn't mind having morbidly obese and unintelligent drivers stinking up their trucks with b.o. And cigars/cigarettes.

Yes. I've already driven 13000 miles solo for January alone. I'm going home tonight in Phoenix until Monday or Tuesday. Rinse repeat... I'm MUCH happier when I roll continuously. I quickly become a disturbed and angry douche nozzle if I have to sit for longer than 18 hours.... that's when my patience grows thin. I'm out here to work, and work I will... or something.

I'm looking forward to the weekend. Hanging out with my girl, her dad and gonna take my bobtail home and wash the hell out of it. It's got a month's worth of road salt and slaughterhouse chunks all over it... I mean it's BAAAADDD!!! A nice project for me to do while I'm home alone when the woman works on Saturday :)

One of the thinks that balances my chakra... a nice washing of the bobtail... vacuum the inside and pressure wash my Taz floor mats... I bought those mats in 1998 and they're still going strong!

I'm still on the fence about staying with Knight after June. Then again, I'm not just going to quit unless I find a much better and easily attainable opportunity.

Oddly enough... having to drive a Volvo 670 is enough to make me want to quit. I can handle the dispatch/shipper/consignee issues... those are part of my job... but my chiropractor told me to get the hell out of this truck before I mess up my tailbone and spine further. I never had back problems until I started driving this specific truck. The steer axle is right in front of your feet!!! NO BUENO!!!

I really wish I had a 10 or 13/18 speed Pete 389 with those bug eye headlights with the LED rings. I just love those!!

Volvos have a super tight turning radius... but I NEVER NEED IT!!! EVER!!

Those Peterbilt trucks cruise like a Prevost tour bus... or a Cadillac... whichever you like more.

I have to go get my tailbone reset AGAIN this weekend. I also cracked a molar while eating... have to look into that. Such is life...

You last til June, broham and you'll have your PICK of companies to choose from, reefer, dry or flatbed. Typically, your first company isn't going to give you a raise to the level that a new company would give you with a year OTR experience. If you move, you'll see your income jump quite a bit.
