Funny. My DM just called me at home. I'm in the process of moving, so I need some time off.

I couldn't park in the regular bobtail lot at the PHX terminal. No space. No spaces near the shop, so I parked in the back where the damaged trucks are. Someone unlocked my truck and stole my brake knobs. You know, the yellow and red push/pull knobs for the air brakes... seriously... WOW!!!!!!

In a way I am lucky that I HAVE TO wait before I can apply and I have been able to follow SEVERAL companies in TTR... and not all companies have:

    THE SAME amount of complaints
    The SAME TYPE of complaints
    and...
as many entrances in the BAD COMPANY section...

I am a wannabe and I only follow companies that pay for school and train and will guarantee a job after.

All I am saying, FOR ANYONE NEW TO THE FORUM, is that not all starting companies are the same and FINDING THIS WEB SITE CAN HELP YOU AVOID MISERY IF YOU LOOK INTO THE COMPANY YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT APPLYING.

A long time ago, before I started reading Smaggs adventures, I wrote Knight off even if that meant digging ditches in the Yukon.

This is a prime example of someone arguing just to be contrary!

AT, the problem with arguing with an idiot is it is difficult to tell who the idiot is. (AT, for the record, it aint you!)

    One more thought:
Arguing with a truck driver is like wrestling with a pig in the mud. After awhile you realize the pig is actually enjoying himself!

Guys and Gals, pay attention to this poster!

He is obviously smarter than most. He figured out the truth about Knight without having to sell his soul to them.
    :biggrin_25514::biggrin_25514::biggrin_25514:

I only wish that more prospective drivers did thier due diligence to avoid being screwed over by the Knight family and other bottom feeder type companies!

Ok, I was going to go to squire starting in June but after reading all this and then some about knight, it makes me think of going to swift acadamy instead. Now I'am by no means the sharpest tool in the shed but it seems there is more negative talk about Knight vs Swift. I currently work in a high (very high stress) fast paced automotive industry were I have 20 immature grown men I have to babysit. The workforce grant people told me I make to much money and over qualified to get a grant. I refuse to put the schooling on a credit card and have next to nothing saved in the bank. My options are limited and I need to start somewere, so that is why I need some imput as whether to start out at Knight (not so promising anymore) or swift? No smart a@# comments as I need to make a decision in a couple of weeks because my position is getting terminated due to the owner I work for is downsizing and I have a wife a two kids to support.

What are you doing? Are you in an auto d(st)ealership? If so, you do realize that you won't make as much as a driver?

Why are you limiting yourself to Swift and Knight?

If you are going to go to a company CDL training, you realize that you'll work for peanuts for a year, right? Off the top of my head, I can think of a few that will get you the CDL, but expect to live on next to nothing for a while:

    Central Refrigerated
    Prime
    Stevens

someone help me out with the others.....

I can't help you with other names, but I will say that Prime has a good training program. Expect to stay out for a few weeks at a time (2-5 weeks -- depends a lot on your trainer) during training, but I imagine that's with any company. Prime also has some of the best pay, from what I've heard. When I went, it was $600 per week, or a certain cpm (don't remember the amount now), whichever was HIGHER. Most other training companies I hear of pay anywhere from $250-400 a week, with no option to get paid by the mile.

(Disclaimer: the only information I know to be completely factual is the info about Prime. I have no first-hand knowledge of any other training company.)

For what I have read, it seems to come to down to where you live and whether they have a terminal where you want to have home time after that... I made a short list FOR MYSELF and compared threads against that list...

Do they mess with your paycheck?
Do they refund weigh scales and tolls?
Do they "generally" deliver on the "proverbial" 2500 average miles a week?
What color is the brand new loft truck they give you and how cute is the waitress in it?
Oh, do they fix the truck if it breaks down?

There are OK companies and THE BEGINNING IS TOUGH for what I READ, I am waiting to have my finances in better shape and a tooth crowned NOW and a credit card paid off before I jump in.

BUT I have been following VARIOUS threads and only participating in some and people are making high 40s mid 50s and more... in a bad economy ONCE they know what they are doing... of course these are geniuses I am talking about (like you and me).

To give you names is almost a dis service: use the search button... Don't be in too much of a hurry if you have a job... when was the last time you went to a dentist?

    I hope this helps.
