May is self insured so it is not about saving money it is about keeping safe.
There are many factors when parking at a truck stop that could keep or wake a driver (ppl walking by, idling truck next to you, reefer running etc.) I can see you complaining about any of them things, but a safety device? You have to be kidding me.
Complaining never makes anything more easy. If you're that light of a sleeper then perhaps instead of gripping like a super trucker you can do something about it! Park some where else?
To me a TRUCKER is someone who gets the job done with out complaint not expecting a pat on the back, it is in fact your duty.
My experience with May Trucking

Amen. Even if it's just nosing in to a spot to avoid having to listen to idling engines/reefers. Not always possible depending on the layout of the lot however. My solution was to plan my trips to avoid having to pull into full truck stops. Always tried to show up when I had plenty of parking options. Be it grab a spot in the "Back 40" or whatever.
Or the guy could try... what are they... oh... earplugs.
I tell ya, the worst way to wake up is to hear the sound of a fender mirror going "crunch" from some dweeb hitting it with their trailer.....on the sight side.....
Anyway, I always found the ambient sounds at a truck stop to be soothing. I like "white noise". -
I got a better idea, how bout you park someplace else.Last edited: Aug 25, 2010

When will you stop being like the millions of other truck driving drones who some how think "I'm more important then you"
So many sheep so few leaders I guess! You have a lot to learn, not just about trucking about life!Civilservant Thanks this. -
If you need backup alarms then fine with me. The rest of us will do just fine backing without them. Now you go ahead and post what you will, but im done with this topic.Last edited: Aug 29, 2010

You're missing the whole point here, that lip of yours is going to get you in trouble someday. No need to be disrespectful to others. Nobody ever said they "Needed" backup alarms, you simply complained about it, at which point the comment was made that they are a safety feature installed by the company, if you don't like them, you've got 2 choices: tough it out, or park somewhere else. Singleing out a driver like Steve here for something that's out of his control (and yours for that matter) just shows how immature you're being.Last edited: Aug 30, 2010

to follow up on my last post, i'm not saying you're wrong for hating back up alarms, go right ahead, not saying it's wrong to say you hate them either, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but don't take it out on the driver. he's just doing his job and trying to make a living just like you are. we all need to respect eachother a bit more, a little respect goes a long way.
Lilbit Thanks this. -
You are coming to the defense of a fellow may driver and there is nothing wrong with that. as of my lip getting me in trouble, yeh it has a few times. I have been busted in the mouth, kicked, hit upside the head with a baseball bat, and even was shot at by a women once. Glad she was a bad aim. but remember, respect goes both ways.

i hate backup alrms--cant stand them--they are annoying as hell--its like fingernails on a blackboard--
but hey--that means they are doing there job---what do you want them to do--play dixie?
if they save one life its worth it---a small child may not recognize when a truck is backing up--maybe that is what will catch their attention--an annoying beep
most industrys require backup alarms --if not a guide when backing into a construction site
i hate hard hats and steel toe boots as well--nother story -
hmmmm a backup alarm that plays dixie... i wouldn't mind it haha
