Either have all the holes cut or if you don't, make sure they check liner height on all of them to make sure the one they cut is the same as all the rest. If not you will be tearing it down in a month if its off.

This is exactly what I did. They came out and checked liner height and counter bores. There are a couple of specialty tools you will need. A liner puller is a must, along with a very large torque wrench. As far as the warranty, the kit I bought actually had a better warranty than the CAT parts. I did put a remanned CAT head on it.

right now dont have the resources to do it myself. too bad one of you arent nearby to help me a little. tomorrow morning i am going up to hunters' peterbilt to have them look at it and make sure a rear seal isnt leaking, which according to them would require the engine to be taken out so the rear seal can be repaired only if it is leaker.
i havent noticed any oil leak going on back there... i might give the guy two hours east of me a call if i ever get the number.

The aftermarket kit had a better parts warranty than the CAT kit? Where did you get this kit from? Cat has engine rebuild kits available that you can purchase with your choice of 2,3,or 4 year warranty UNLIMLITED MILEAGE. CAT standard warranty of course is 1 year. But purchase a CAT Gold or Platinum rebuild kit and you have your choice of filling out an OPT warranty form and pick your desired coverage.

Take your vasoline with you when you go to Hunters. I've been hearing some bad things about them over in Butler lately.

But if they told you they have to pull the motor just to change a seal, they're idiots or I'm missing something..... Last I checked the only time you'd have to pull the motor is to pull the crank?

Well, doesnt the rear cover have to come off and either the engine or the tranny have to come out to change out the rear seal?

No, the Mahle/Clevite kit has a 2 year warranty. I know a mechanic that builds tractor pull trucks and this is the kit he recommended. I have been really happy with it.
