I was wondering about that. Figures no question is stupid.
Anyhow. My last post was a bit too simplistic. If it is possible to evade and not lose pavement then it will and has been done. I had a 4 wheeler (To save you from digging way back) that was a 70's era multi ton buick Lesabre convertable, yellow in color on what I consider to be US 22 right at the Juction 2 miles south of Stoney Ridge OH truckstops.
Anyhow my number one in his covered wagon had it zip by him 1/4 mile against the left lane, he was in the far right. By the time I heard that message (Which might never happened so easily since the radio was usually turned down but we were listening to the truckstops and 80 traffic) there it was in my left lane and coming. I was already horsing my covered wagon with it's load into the right so he barely missed my spread axles as he went through the Junction curve east bound in the left lane against a herd of cars behind me. I waited for the smash. My last memory of it was 6 teenagers, maybe 7 laughing and drinking as they went by where I was a moment ago. This was right about 1994-1995 july. Somewhere in there.
Local policeman was doing radar a mile up the road so he did not see anything. It would be very possible that I would be dead then or in prison for vehicle manslaughter and indebted to civil suits that never end. And those 6 or 7 most certainly would have died or worse.
That headon scenario was my worst. I did what I did but.. if it happens in the future will depend on how much pavement I have to work with. The moment you take her off the pavement, you don't have it anymore and over she may go. And for what?
You did what you did. And the companies covered themselves by making you expendable. It happens. Not everyone would have done it. And even if they did have a head on... it's really a bad thing. Those little cars today at 1800 pounds crush so easily against a 80,000 pound monster at 50 mph. crunch.
My first accident.

With the plastic tractors that most carriers are using anymore, if I trucker comes through a head on, even with a little car, and is able to walk away from it, he is darn lucky! There are many things that I would just not have tried to take to the ditch for, but a head on at highway speeds.....
Of course, it all depends on the situation in a given incident. -
Here is my head-on close call.... I slowed down, moved over as far as I can... I did my part... Just had to go to court lady was trying to fight the ticket saying I didn't do anything to help the situation.... Crown Prosecutor and Police disagree which is why they didn't offer a bargain since they have video evidence. Best $60cdn I have spend yet. Funny part, she came in to do try then said she didn't understand charges or whatever.. Judge was not happy told the person you wasted this gentleman's time (me), police officer, crown and judges time and the court rooms time since they had booked it in for 1hr trial.. Judge was not happy. So she allowed her to discuss with her mom (mom was the one in car, couldn't show up to court due to surgery recovery). Judge says this time if you choose to go to trial again you will not have any other chances to back out again, next time the trial will happen.. So waiting to see what she decided to do in Feb, if she plead guilty no trial or if it's gonna go to trial again. Funny thing is cop says once the judge see the video (if it goes to trial) she may imposed a bigger fine then original charge. Cop says this lady is lucky to be alive and should be grateful and pay ticket. Anyhow thank god for dash-cams, if I had gone into ditch I would have had proof.

If you are reading this and do not have a dash cam, get one today. There is no question about a video telling the story in Court or to the lawman on your fuel tank.

I got into a accident in April of this year. Ran off the road due to bad foggy weather and lost sight of the road. The cop didn't write me a citation but the company still terminated me because they thought I fell asleep which wasn't the case. My dad drives for the same company and they didn't call him to inform him I've been in a accident or nothing.... Also the safety manager lied and told him that he would've kept me but he told my dad I fell asleep and I didn't... They put alot of stuff on my dac report which is making it really hard to find another job... So far I've tried 20 companies and they all told me to wait about 6 to 18 months. I even filled a app at swift and they declined me. All I can do now is just learn from this and wait.
