Maybe it is just because I am such a good driver?

It is from recruiting. While most companies pay a recruiting bonus Of let's say $1000 ACT does it a little differently. If you recruit somebody you get paid $300 the week they complete orientation and then you get paid .04 per mile extra on your dispatched miles for 90 days or as long as they are still there up to 90 days. My base rate is .98 + fsc of .42 which is $1.40 plus I had 10 recruits last week which is an extra .40 for a total of $1.80. We get .08 less on empty miles. The reason they do it that way is so if a new driver hires on and then leaves a week later they are not out for say $1000 for the recruiting bonus. I know someone here about 6 months ago who had 32 recruits in so he was making about $2.60 on loaded miles and $2.52 on empty miles.

That's not too bad then. No wonder you're doing it.. As long as you can actively keep recruiting and if they don't change it. It's a hell of a lot better than $1.40 a mile. Get the truck paid off as fast as you can, or at the very least pile up cash so you can if need be, cause you never know what they might decide to tweak on that recruiting bonus at any point in the future. And, a $1.40 a mile (actually it will be a LOT less than that figured off actual odometer miles) will make you go broke with a paid off truck - slowly but surely. And for your own good you really ought to keep a running tally of odometer miles driven every week.

You are all forgetting we started these conversations because he says that it is only costing him $.80/mile to run his truck.
