Try keeping the trailer brakes locked, put it reverse and push against the trailer. Don't let the tractor roll forward again. Then re-apply the tractor brakes and see if you can pull out the release lever.

Make sure you have the tractor keys in your pocket when you try pulling the release arm. Saftey first. :biggrin_25525:

Unfortunately these are the little tricks you learn with your trainer. You need a king pin puller, that will give you a little more leverage. Also a hammer to the backside of the pin and spring. Volvo's typically do this! Also, dump and inflate the bags a few times.

    Wedge Thanks this.

A trainer wouldn't have helped, except for giving me company, a pin holding the spring was broke, road side service had to replace it...I called 2 people for help before calling shop and tried everything they suggested...All fixed now and trailer is dropped off!...

Currently sitting at Pilot in Monroe, MI...I pick up 45,000lb load tomorrow and head to Memphis!!...

Sounds like the first week has went well! Congrats man!

Does that Volvo have the 2 switches on the dash to unlock the fifth wheel?
It takes some getting used to but if it has that feature they work well.
This unlocks the king pin so you can dump the air bags and just pull out..

That figures! Well that's how it goes in the world of trucking sometimes. The Volvo's are notorious for being a pain to unhook! Make sure to keep plenty of grease on your fifth wheel and if it does stick tap the back of the pin with the spring with a hammer. That usually does the trick.

5th was greased before i hooked up my first trailer!...They did it with oil change...

Since that day I picked up 39,950 lbs of juice yesterday in Warren, MI and delivered to Memphis, TN today,. drove over 600 miles yesterday...57 thru IL is loooooooong, straight and flat!...After I dropped that off this morning, drove to Jackson for fuel, light was on I was so low, then to Myrtle, MS, picked up a load and am sitting in Jackson, TN again on my way to Austinttown, OH...Almost 600 miles today, if the traffic in memphis wasn't so bad I would have but ran out of hours...I should get close to 600 tomorrow, traffic pending...My first week out will be just under 3000 miles, they're keeping me running!...I was so beat last night couldn't even post! :)

Sounds like your running good. Waiting on the phone call in the morning, but passed the HPE and Safety so it looks like the 6th I'll be in Conover.
