I want to hear how you manage to average 3000 miles a week over a period of four months. I mean I don't think I've averaged 3000 miles in any two week period. Off the top of my head seems the math don't work.
How do you figure emton? When I was with Prime I definitly averaged 3K miles a week no doubt in my mind. There was times I was just at 4K a week. If your a compnay driver for Prime you will keep moving and never stop if you want. They started me at .34 cpm when I became an A seat and I was doing pretty good. As for you going and getting your CDL through Prime, good luck. I got mine there and there CDL progrma to me was excellent. My trainer and my instructor were both awesome drivers and awesome teachers. I might end up going back to Prime just not sure yet.
Milskired--- I am going to Prime on August 3rd. I am going to get my CDL through them as well. Start off as a Class "D" driver, once I obtain my CDL, I am then a "B" seat driver for the 50,000 miles. So what was your training like? Any tips? Pointers? Thanks.
You stay in there Hotel that the owner of Prime owns and they have a nice caffeteria there, the classes are held at the hotel in a large classroom they have and you will room with one other person. If your not familiar with the area there is a good amount of stuff in the area and since you dont have a vehicle you will have to walk. There is a wal mart and a few resturants in the area and then there is a gas station right across the street if you smoke or want a beer for that nice when your watching TV in your room. I wont lie to you man Prime will run you hard and you can do good with them just stay on the compnay side and dont lease a truck, and if you want to lease a truck wait atleast a year until you get use to the company and see how everything works at the company and as a driver. The first month as a D seat or as a permit driver you dont make much at all. Once you get in with your trainer and you are a B seat you will get bumped up a little bit and if you get along with your trainer and run hard you can make a litte extra. I know myself and my trainer would average about 7K miles a week and that was over 3 months and a week. We totaled 92 or 93K miles from Jan. 10-Mar.17. I did ok. Once you get into your own truck and you pick it and everything you will get atleast 3K a week. When you are looking at the trucks you have to choose from DONT BE EASY WITH THE LOOKING OVER!!! My front tires had a lot of tread but one looked kind of dry rotted so I put that down I also put down that the brakes were about 50% and I had new steers and all new brakes on the whole truck and you can request extra everything for your truck to carry with you. Wiper blades, oil, headlights, bulbs, everything. It will be fun man just stick with it and get that years experience so you open your options up to a lot more places.
I highly recommend you stay away from any and all booze. Especially if you are a student.(PSD) I know this as a fact. I seem to remember a qoute from my first day..."if you can't go a few weeks without a drink, then it's probably best you leave now. Cuz if we find out, your gone and don't expect us to buy you a bus ticket home." Policy is no drinking within 10 hours of getting in the truck. So forget about it on the road unless you are in a hotel and there is zero chance you will be dispatched or expected to drive... Lot of Prime tattletales out there. Nuthin like getting a call from safety because someone told them you were parked on an off ramp or some other bs. In my case I was broke down with my hazards and triangles out waiting for service vehicle... Tattletales didn't bother mentioning all that.
Sorry I should of mentioned that. I have never drank on the road only at hom and I only went to that gas station once to get 1 tall boy to have with my dinner and I was not driving for another 3 days so I was not risking anything
We are cool... I didn't think so... Just didn't want the new guys getting off the bus in Springfield, getting their rooms and grabbing a beer ... Thus potentially screwing themselves before they have even started. BTW.. Last time I popped a random "whizz quizzed". They have added a new step... They stick a tab on your tounge.. And check for a color change... It supposedly can tell if you've consumed any alcohol recently.
Thanks... I am no longer driving tho. I am semi-retired... I didn't need luck at maverick... I needed luck at prime and wasn't issued any..
I got a 6er at that gas station. Truck was in the shop, was going to be a few days, so a Domino's Pizza, a 6 pack of Miller, and the US / Canada Olympic hockey game was on tap for the evening. I left the evidence for the clean up crew and never heard a word about it. As a student or new driver going through orientation, don't even think about it. But if they tried to fire me or reprimand me for having a few beers after I'm an established employee, during my time off, with my Domino's pizza...that's not a company I'd want to work for and would probably be less than legal for them to do so anyway. I also had a few drinks over at Fire and Ice. The bartender was fully aware that I was a Prime driver, and in fact, my dispatcher was fully aware I was going to throw back a few that night. He was planning on coming out, but wasn't able to make it. Again, truck in shop for a couple days, had a few drinks watching some Blackhawks playoff hockey...no harm, no foul. Pretty cool bar too. Nothing like setting your ice cold beer down on...ice. My personal rule? Not one sip of alcohol 24hrs before I see the inside of the truck. And I save the beer pong for my hometime. But there is no reason a grown man or woman can't responsibly enjoy a few beers while they are away from the truck for a couple days. And yeah, to that guy who is averaging 3k miles per week...I'm callin' BS on that. Otherwise, PM me your dispatchers name cause I'm requesting a switch!
Rule is, while you are at Prime as a PSD student no alcohol WHATSOEVER!!! Automatic termination with no ride home if you are caught with alcohol. As far as the 3000 miles a week, I can see that happening no problem. I've averaged a little over 3000 miles a week since I dropped off my last trainee a little over a month ago. My highest week mileage wise was just over 4000 miles.
