Can your mother boards bios support the 12G of memory? If it can, you could do away with the need for a swap file.

MB supports up to 24 gigs and I made sure to get 64 bit OS, I am just not sure why its seeming to bog down so much on things my pentium four handled with ease.

What are you running windows 7? I don't know what mine supports but i only have one gig. I do pretty good since i only spent about 150. Needs an upgrade for the future. Plan to get it a better processor mobo more ram a dual core. Power supply is good enough. Case was free only thing it needs is a dusting.

If the software that you are running bogs down, it probably wasn't designed to run on a multi-core chip. It is only running on a single core of the chip, you have turned your computer into a single core P4 # 2.67GHz.

What application are you running the bogs down? My biggest problem child is Photoshop CS3.

The next version of adobe software will be ready to run on multi-core chips. Right now the only major software that utilizes multi-core stuff is the game market.

    Question for the geeks.

How do I fix a computer that is comfortably fast when I bought it, but over time slowly gets worse to the point that my laptop takes over 5 mins to book.

Friend of mine says his desktop is worse.

How do I reliably fix this? I've tried the free root fix, etc etc etc. Doesn't make the least bit of difference. I've scanned 100 times for viruses..... nada.

Is the only choice to throw it away and start over?

The simple answer is yes. Just back up your information, which you should be doing anyway. Then just reinstall windows and add your software.

Most of the pros recommend that you start fresh every year.

When buying used computers from fleabay the disks are not included.

When a house fiar occurs its easy to loose the disks even if the computer gets carried out by helpful neighbors.

What other option do I have?
