According to the last bullet point, records are deleted after they are no longer required. The cloud-based system might not be a bad tbhing altogether...what happens if your computer crashes and you lose your electronic records? If you haven't been manually backing things up regularly, you're screwed if you are audited within the next 6 months. Even if you ARE backing things up regularly, you still might lose a week or two (depending upon how often you back up your files). One less thing to have to worry about.
That being said, though, I'd still rather my stuff not be out there in the cloud. Being a "paper" guy (I print stuff off more often than not if I want to save it, as opposed to "bookmarking" a web page that might be altered or saving a file on the computer), I'll still probably print everything off to keep in my records instead of relying upon the to store it, whether it is in the cloud or not.
My latest elog question??

Also there is a huge concern if there is an accident and some lawyer is out for blood and a subpoena is sent to you for your records.
The the language of a subpoena always reads " any or all information pertaining to..."
This means that all info retained is to be sent to them not just the last six months.
Now if only 6 months is retained that's all you would be required to send. -
I just got off the phone with them an hour ago in Allentown pa. and as off now record retention is on the cloud and indefinite.
They said there may be a provision to change it to 6 months retention at a later date.
So even though there literature you posted says differently that is not the way it is right now with vdo. -
Sounds to me like false advertising, then.

This is what the elogs delay being kicked around in congress is about.
The whole system is still in disarray and is not ready to go live yet.
They need more time to get things hammered out and written in stone.
Heck of all those elds seen on the dot web site not one of them is certified by DOT.
Every one of them is self certified by the company that makes it.
This means that dot could say at any particular time that they don't recognize the eld you are useing and you are not in compliance. -

there is no wireless and no fee.
I did this purposely because I want it to be compliant but want to protect my privacy and have my logs stored at my place of business as the law prescribes and not out on a server somewhere out of my control.
This is not the case! -
Why on earth when the law states your logs need to be kept at your place of business for six months do we need to store all of them indefinitely on an internet server somewhere??Last edited: Aug 20, 2017
