My Maverick Experience

    I got $45 because I also had to set up 1 set of A-Frames which is $20. So for 10 hours of work I got $45. $4.50 an hour. That's a little more than half of Minimum wage where I'm from:biggrin_25512:



    Made it to NLR. I'll be here for the next 36 hours. I have less than 4 hours left on my 70 and 2 days until I get some back on recap. They are either going to repower the load, or change my delivery time. Not sure yet, won't know until Monday. The earliest I can leave here is Monday at 1200 so I have plenty of time to find out. Found a tail light out on my trailer when I stopped earlier, couldn't even fix it because it's one of those LED ones that are riveted into the trailer. I'll see if I can get the shop to fix it tomorrow while I'm just sitting around.

    I also have to go mess around with the accessories shop. Guardian in Dewitt, IA decided to give me 1 glass tarp and 1 lumber tarp on this glass trailer. Good thing Corsicana had extra glass tarps. So I have to return that and then get 8 4ft timbers from them that I'm supposed to have on my tractor, but nobody told me about so I didn't get them.

    Amazingly enough I only had to redo 2 of the knots on the way here when they came loose 30 miles from Corsicana. I was thinking a lot more would come loose since I just winged it on securing the tarp. It all stayed put for the most part and no glass got broken so I must have come close to getting it right.

    I think I quit my job about 30 times while tarping this load. The guys in Corsicana were significantly less helpful than Dewitt. I'm not really looking forward to having to go back to that plant. This load really made me think about if it's worth the extra 6CPM to haul glass. I'll stick it out for a couple months to get a good feel for it. Hopefully it will be a little better when I have a better handle on what the hell I'm doing. I had to redo most of the ropes several times because I kept messing up their placement. It would be nice if we used bungies because messing one of those up is just as simple as unhooking it and moving the one bungie, you don't have to undo 15+ minutes of work just to redo it.

    So if anybody comes through tomorrow feel free to come find me. I'm on the front row parked backwards from everybody else. There's one TCD truck on this row and he's making more noise than anybody else on the whole campus.

    Sorry you had such a time with that load, man. Always darkest before dawn - hang in there. Hope they get your light fixed quick. Enjoy nlr. Imagine that - you'll be getting back on the pavement when the next winter storm barrels across the midwest.

    Hang in there it can only get better. Friend of mine started with them the week after you and he is on dedicated account in WV and had a messed up first week also. It just may be the first week that everything goes wrong because you are trying to do a good job and a little nervous. Hope it goes well next week.

    Still haven't heard anything about the repower for my load. At this point there's no way it's going to deliver on time. Even if they did have a repower for it tomorrow morning. I'm thinking I may end up just delivering it on Wednesday instead. As long as they don't route me down to Laurinburg to pickup glass I should still be able to get home by Friday.

    Couple pics of the current load. 11 Stoces of 96x130 glass. 5 on the front, 6 in back. 47,107lbs for the glass. 78560 gross.

    The only dedicated account I know of is in Heaters, WV. I would guess that's where.

    Yes it is in Heaters, WV. He is on the Weyerhauser account. His first load was Tuesday.

    Thats what I thought, however, I did see a daycab with the same type of trailer parked in Parkersburg, WV 160 miles from Heaters and knew that you have to live within 50 miles of the dedicated route so I wasnt sure why that truck was parked there in a Go-Mart with truck parking. I live in Parkesburg and have been looking hard at Maverick.

    It's possible the driver got held up at a shipper/consignee and ran out of hours for the day. If there was a hotel nearby he may have been spending the night in the hotel and then he will drive back in the morning.

    When stuff like that happens the company would pay for the hotel for the night. It's just part of trucking, just because you're driving a day cab doesn't 100% guarantee that you will be sleeping in your bed every night.

    He lives around Summersville and one night he had to stay at a motel in Heaters because he was held up for several hours getting unloaded.
