I'm just a few weeks away from orientation. Over the course of my life, I've realized that I learn better from females than males any time I've ever been in a learning environment. This is the case for various different reasons. (None of them sexual, so don't even go there...)

Question is: I am wondering if I will be allowed to ask for a female mentor?
I think female students are given the opportunity to specify a preference, but are males given the same privilege?

Also, companies like TMC boast about how they profile their students and mentors and do a match making so that they get people with things in common. Does Swift do this or anything like that?

I doubt it too. Even the females that request a female mentor usually have to wait a long time due to a shortage of female mentors. I also doubt that the reasoning for gender accommodation for females has anything to so with who one learns best from. With Swift, unless you have a smoking preference, or you are a female requesting a female mentor, you get the next available mentor - no matchmaking involved. I actually have no preference as far as male, female, smoker, or non-smoker and I am still waiting for a mentor right now.

Darn. Being one of the largest companies out there, you'd think there would be quite a few of them. What's your home terminal Road Dust?

Well, maybe I'll have a broader mentor base out of Decatur (Atlanta)...

Plan on being gone from home 7 weeks minimum. From day 1 orientation to when you get a mentor to finish. I have been gone from home since Feb 8th. Orientation started the 9th. I didn't get a mentor on the first day. I requested nonsmoking. I got lucky because my mentor's first student quit after sleeping in the truck at the terminal. No telling how long I might have had to wait.

On Thursday you bring all your stuff from the motel. Don't let it out of your sight! I got my brand new coveralls stolen. They had us put it in another room and that's how it happened.

Mentors are told to try and not take you home during your training. Too many trainees jump off the truck! I got home under a load for my 34hr reset once, and for 15 hours a second time. Luckily I live 4 miles from the Pilot. They tell the mentor not to take you to their house. Mine did, I have been there twice. We BBQ'd and I did my laundry. We grilled steaks at my house last week. I did stay a couple days in a motel in Laughlin NV while he took home time. Company pays up to $60 a night for 6 total. If necessary.

My mentor is way over due on his hometime. He lives in Bullhead City AZ. We are headed to Dallas, then Phoenix. Who knows after that.

General info I am getting is Swift isn't very good about getting you home. I live near I-40 so my chances are real good.

There is lots of freight out West. Easy running less traffic. Most of our freight is out West.

BTW wannabe read my signature. Stop asking you recruiter to lie to you. Remember when you signed up with the military?

Maybe, but I still doubt if you will get a female mentor.
