Well this week (short since I am off for Xmas now)ended on a absolute positive.......... My student got his CDL today. I was really amazed at how nervious I was for him - felt like a parent watching your kid take their test. LOL.

He worked really hard the last 3 weeks and deserved to get it and he did! I am proud of what he has accomplished in this time, learning an entirely new truck, my ways and so on. The look on his face when he stepped out after his test was priceless!

Congrats Man and now we just have to get your truck assigned!

I'm home now and ready to start the Holiday's - will hit it again on the 26th!

    Happy Holidays everyone...........

PS. If your running on Christmas Eve and in the Lexington area - let me know. I always extra room at the dinner table. No one should be alone this time of year!

    Dave,

I just read through all the posts in this thread.( It took me the better part of two days...)

I enjoyed every minute of it. You presented your point of view of the trucking industry, Millis, and life in general in a very clear and easy to read manner! Thanks for all your hard work.

I too spent 20 years in the Call Center and after having been laid off two weeks ago I'm looking at making a career change. This thread really hit home for me and has my my decision much easier. I owe you one!!!

I have applied to Millis, but being from FL I think I'm out of their hiring area. We'll have to see. If Millis doesn't work out, I'm in line at Prime right now too. Something will work out!

Good luck in your future travels!

    Hey -

I know it's been like forever since I have updated this...... Been running hard and not had much time to do anything else except grab some sleep at night.

Got the "I need a favor" call last week and was asked to give a week refresher to an experienced driver coming aboard. So picked him up last Thursday. Since then we have not stopped!!!!

Our first load was out of Hartford WI going to Saratoga Springs NY. We made that a day early and were able to get unloaded when we arrived. Grabbed a paper load that night right next door (gotta love those) and headed out to Cherokee, AL. Again we were a day early but really doesnt matter there. We stayed the night in Cherokee and the weather was so nice we cooked out on my grill. Heck I even made a new friend while there.

Once unloaded in AL we headed to MS to grab a furniture load going to Milwaukee, WI. Ran that up that night and were able to get that off before midnight so it counted on the weeks loads(yea ha) was a great week with over 4350 miles.

We ran from Milwaukee to Richfield and called it a night - got some much needed rest. First thing the next morning - got a load going to Greensboro, NC. Needless to say we again were early except this time the customer wouldnt take early. So we sat for the remainder of the afternoon and delivered at 6am in the morning.

From Greensboro we were sent to Eden to grab a load going to Randolph MA. Ran that up in one day and were at the customer at 1am. Ran into a lot of traffic issues a long detour but made it. Checked in with the customer at 7am and got a load of dunnage back to Eden so we were able to drop and hook and keep rolling right back to Eden. Made it back last night about 11pm. Dropped at the brewery and then rolled into Eden and had some dinner.

Was then given a load from Big Island VA to Centerville OH that doesnt deliver until Monday Morning we slept in at Eden. Ran to Big Island this morning and ran to St Alban WV and are calling it a night. Will run to the customer in the AM and ensure we find a place to watch the game. Should head to Trenton if they have a truck for my student so he can test out on Monday.

Making Chili in the crock pot in the morning for the game. Have been cooking alot. Not sure my students learn much - but they'll eat good! LOL!

Quest - Sometimes with every closed door, many others open that are better than before! Thanks for reading the blogs - there are many here that post what we can to assist new drivers and even those thinking of joing Millis. So I urge you to read others and see they too have a lot to share.

Platinum is right - check out May for that area as he works for them and resides down that way too. We take freight into Fl but dont have alot to get us out.

Oh and G-Town - how can I miss you, you call me 5 times a day LOL and I bet you're not eating as good either! Just messing with ya!

RubberDuck - didnt we talk about this the other day? I cant remember if that was you or someone else. Let me know when your grad date will be. I am picking up another student on the 20th and will be taking home time later this week or early next depending on if my current student gets his truck - so will have to see! It will depend on how the next student does.

Hope everyone is well and again sorry for being absent for so long. Please be safe out there!

Question for anyone who trains, Millis says 5-8 weeks in trainers truck.
Is 5 weeks written in stone or has anybody been allowed to finish up eariler?
