Last year, which was my first year out I ran 114,336 for the year and last week I ran 4,089 miles and the other 3 weeks of January I avg. over 3,000 miles. Sort of hated to go home with all the good miles. I ran the 4,089 on e-logs and thru a white out, over a foot of snow in up state NY and freezing ran on the last part of the week. The one thing about Millis is that they do what they say they will do for you. Can't say that about all trucking companies. Good luck with what ever you decide to do.

For the Love of God - change the dang pic!!!! Glad to see things have picked up for you. We need to catch up soon! -
Man - last week was the week from (well you know)
Snow storms, Blizzards, Heavy rain, all in a 5 day period of time. I can seem to get away from this crap. Got a short run out of home time and once dropped, ran back to Trenton for a load going to E. Hartford, CT. Got that one off early even though I ran though 4 or 5 segments of Lake Effect SNOW!
Once unloaded in CT headed to Hampton NH for a load going to MN. Was a two stop load of carpet. First stop was Eau Claire, WI and then Belgrade MN. Saturday met up with Bear and was able to run most of the day with him through more Lake Effect snows and wind. We rolled up on a Millis that had hit the wall in OH - appears a p/u was involved also. Not sure what happened and we were in the far lane and couldnt get stopped but appears the driver was standing talking to the Police so I assume he was ok. Always happy to run with someone as it makes the day go by much faster. We stopped and had a great breakfast and then hit it hard all the way to Chicago where we split off. Good to see ya Man!
Made it too BRF on Saturday evening and ended up doing a 34 since I couldnt deliver until today in Eau Claire. Gave me some time to get the inside of the truck cleaned up and cook some great stuff for the game!
Got to Menards at 7:30am this morning and at 2:30 I was unloaded. Yes - it took them that long to unload 34 rolls of carpet. With that said, had to reschedule my last stop for in the morning. Gotta love my dispatcher as he re-assigned the load to me so I could get all but 50 miles on for this last week.
Sitting in Clearwater, MN at the Petro. Have never stopped here before. Awesome food and they have a huge bakery as well. One of the best meals Ive had since driving!
Guys/Gals - please slow down in this weather we have been having. Seen more accidents than I care too.
Please Be safe! -
I have been thinking that same thing! Time for an updated avatar!

Baritone-
Just wanted to say thanks for this informative thread I've been reading for the last coupla days. Been mulling switching career gears for a few years now. Been running my own biz for the last 20 years and the economy in my market is just going over a cliff. Well, it actually went over the cliff already - I'm just hanging in mid-air like Wile E Coyote before he realizes he's gonna fall, using a couple part-time side jobs to tread water for the time being. This thread has pretty much convinced me to flip the switch. Just have to convince the live-in gf that being away for weeks at a time is going to be ok and that between cell phones and Skype we'll probably spend just as much time "together" as we do now. Heck, she'd probably like having the house to herself anyway.
Thanks again, I wish you the best. Going over to youtube now to catch your videos... -
I appreciate you taking the time to read the thread and ck out the videos. Trucking is an acquired taste and either you love it or hate it. If you're in-between you won't last long. A strong work ethic and simple business principles you can do well out here.
I wish you the best in your choice and if I (or any) the Drivers can help with questions just let us know.
All the best!
David -
Well, I convinced the gf & sent in an app on Saturday; I'll give it a couple days and see whether they feel I'm Millis material or not...
[edit] PS - liked the videos - especially the seat-dancing! I do video now at work, so I was interested to see how your production chops got better over time - keep it up! -
It's always a hard leap at first but it gets better trust me. I appreciate the kind words and I am still a novice at the editing part.
Keep in touch and let me know what you find out. -
Man - another long but very productive week. Finished up my load in Minnesota on Tuesday of last week and then grabbed a load out of St. Paul going to Sussex WI. On the way to Sussex get that usual message asking for a favor. Gotta love those. Needed a trainer for a student out of the Richfield class. Of course I said yes and met my student Wednesday morning.
No sooner did he get his stuff moved in I was given a load to p/u in Menomonee Falls with two stops. 1st in Waco TX and 2nd in Austin TX. Not sure how I always get these TX runs but I am not complaining.
Ran all the way to Joplin the first night and student actually drove most of the way. Second day we were re-routed to Ft Worth to drop and get a load that needed to be in Albany GA. So once we made the switch we were off to GA. Again my student did most of the driving and I was very impressed at his abilities and willingness to drive as much as he has so early on. I usually have them drive 1/2 of the day but he was ready to learn and roll and wanted to keep driving.
Made it to GA and ended up not getting another load until Sunday. Had some good down time there spent getting to know my student and of course grabbing a good dinner at the "Crazy Buffet"! Was able to get caught up with some other drivers and about 10 of us ate together. Really enjoy when you get to do that and exchange stories and the like. Later that evening most were getting loads assigned as we stood outside talking in the nice evening weather. (Great to see ya Lee) We need to catch up more soon!
Got a load out of The Rock GA going to Effingham IL so finished a reset Sunday morning then headed north to grab the load. Pretty run and made it all the way since got a dock as soon as we got there Sunday.
Once unloaded in Effingham we were sent to E. St Louis to relay a load to GA. So back down south we go again. Hit Valdosta early today and met my son and his friend for dinner. Had a great steak at Austins in Valdosta. If you get a Lowes load - it's at exit 16. If going south on 75, use exit 16 and turn left. Immediately on your right is a T/S and Austins is right across the street. Easy walk if you like. Highly recommend it!
Got a pre-plan out once I drop at Lowes so will get this off in early AM and head to Cedar Springs then on to Trenton.
Student is doing very well and seems to really want to drive. He's already got 2700 miles in so far. I am sure it's more of he just wants to get the heck out of my truck and the sooner he gets done the better LOL! Great guy and glad I said yes!
Be safe and run hard! -
hopefully you get another one of those calls arounf the first of may to train another one from richfield.
