i have been around the block and over the hill a few times. get along with most people so i figure if they are a trainer i should be able to get along. after all this is my career i am trying to start and sometimes you have to bite your tongue and just get it done. military taught me that quite a while ago. thanks baritone for all your very useful info.

Know what is scarier to me than changing careers at 54, is the fact that I may be asked to haul into NYC, Chicago, or some other huge city, is it all forced dispatch into these areas...Baritone, I followed you through these post from beginning to end, are the inner citys the horror I hear most describe?

All of nyc is optional and pays extra. But we only have one regular run into there that i am aware of. Everything else is forced if u have the hrs. Its still nerve racking but it gets easier once u get used to driving a big truck. Its everyone else you get to worry about.

Most cities are not bad. Chicago is a little tricky because of low bridges but its not too bad either.

You're welcome and glad some of my rambling might help others. That's exactly the outlook to have. Stay positive and you will do just fine.

Really the above post says a lot. It's all about the attitude that you bring into it. It's a tight area for the 6+ weeks you are with a trainer, so no matter how well you get along one of you is ready to stab the other in the neck towards the end....Just kidding of course.

I'll look for you when I am through G-ville! Best of luck and keep us posted on your progress!

I may need to start a new thread on this, but ill ask here first. One thing I havent seen on any of the threads is about the cost you have during training. What is a good estimate for food and other things for a week while in training. Thanks

All of the hotels have a fridge and microwave in the rooms and provide some type of breakfast. If you want to you can get by on a couple hundred dollars for the month, get groceries pack a lunch during the. day etc If you eat out twice a day obviously you could spend a couple hundred a week. I spent about $160 on groceries and only ate out a couple times a week so I did it the cheap way.
Once you get out with your trainer it kind of depends on him too...mine didn't have a microwave and liked to eat in the truckstop. Plus space is alot tighter with 2 people in the truck. But it really depends on you...

    jtp4g Thanks this.
