Hitman - sounds like the others have more than answered your questions. All my stuff is in storage, when on home time will stay with my Mom since I just returned from the Philippines and dont have my own place set up here yet so no rent or utilities per say. My car and car insurance is paid on line as is my credit card and even my Alimoney so it's every easy to handle things. I even have my son's accounts linked to mine so while they are away at college if I they need money (which is often) I can just go on line via either my phone or lap top and transfer what is needed.
With a little prep work you can have all of these covered while on the road.

Day 8 is in the books -
Today we did our normal pre-trip work and then headed for Valdosta GA - allowing each of us about 2 hrs driving time. I have become much more comfortable with a trailer now - but still struggling at times with the down shifting. I keep hearing "dont worry it will come" but it seems to really be the only thing I have had real issues with thus far. With next week being mainly road work all week - I am hopeful to get this worked out and gain more experience with it.
Also got my first experience with a scale house today. For some reason when others drive we always get the green light and fly by them, but when I am driving - NOPE we get the red light and today we even got the green arrow to pull off to the right thinking they were going to check everything. But we just rolled slowly over the scales and were sent on our way. I think someone up stairs is testing me or something!
All in all good day! Tomorrow we are set to test out on our backing and parking so hope that all goes well!Skydivedavec Thanks this. -

I am very happy so far but also understand I dont have anything to compare it with as this is my first job in trucking ever! The instructors are top notch, everyone I have met from drivers, other students, trainers and even the shop staff are more than willing to talk to you and answer any questions you may have.
Cant speak directly to the Ohio staff - but we have one person from Ohio working with us this week and he is awesome. He is not a full time instructor just fills in when needed but great guy!
I dont think you'll be disapointed with Millis - I havent thus far. But I also take everything with a grain of salt and know there are "whinners" in every company no matter what.
The old saying is "if they were passing out $100.00 bills at the door when you left each day, someone would ##### because it wasnt a new bill"! So understand that and also understand - there is MUCH more to this job than you would expect!
Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!Skydivedavec and twinrose Thank this. -
Alright thats cool...i cant wait to start, i leave in a week

Well Day 9 is in the books.
Today we practiced our backing and blind side parking and then each of us tested out. Only issue I had was the blind side parallel parking and had to re-take that one but passed with no problem on my second try.
Today was a short day and we were allowed to leave early to start the Holiday weekend. I am heading home for a few days and will update once I am back in Cartersville on Monday night.
Have a good and safe weekend.Mrgreen09, Hitman and Skydivedavec Thank this. -
Day 10 is down -
Today started with the normal PTI and then we were off on another road trip. Greg is back and we hit the normal "Bisquit" stop and then off into the mountains of Georgia with a trailer.
As I made my turn behind the wheel I heard a little laugh come from Greg - I asked what was so funny and he said just wait.......well I saw what was making him laugh very quickly. Some of the tightest down hill turns and grades that I have seen in all my years of driving a car - worried about keeping the decent slow, the rear trailer tires in between the lines and all of which while everyone else was ohhh and ahhhing out the window at the views of the mountains. I kept it together and made the decent with no issues thank goodness. Once at the bottom we stopped for lunch and man was I happy to turn the truck over to the next guy!
Tomorrow we are taking a load to Albany Georgia and then one more trip which will be our night trip. We are set to graduate on Friday and then it's three days of orientation and off with my trainer.
Hope everyone has a great night!Skydivedavec and JustSonny Thank this. -
Man, once you have your own truck and you drive that 70 ft long beast through some Kentucky backroad highway with all the twists and curves, or bump a crowded dock in some inner city you'll be so thankful for the training your getting now. I remember being afraid of going to NJ or NY and then took a load to Danville, KY and found out there is NO EASY ROUTE into or out of Danville, KY. I was happy to hit Jersey after that.
I'm just saying you'll love some of the challenges that await. It gets in your blood.
Keep up the great posts. I'm loving this.Skydivedavec Thanks this. -
Man you're so right....I drove through Lookout Mountain today and man did my ##### pucker the whole time. But learned just how valuable the jake break is. At least if I have to do NYC I get $100.00 bucks extra for the "pucker factor"!
I am loving this so far and cant wait to get with my trainer so I can get more drive time and learn more!
