Hello guys. Im thinking about going into the 'trucking career'. My dad drove for Metal Transportation for about a year before going back to work for my granddad. Which he regrets.. lol but he loved driving and encourages me to try it

I've been reading on here for 3 days now and decided to make an account. I have applied at Millis and they called me 20 minutes later and told me to send them my w2s from the last three years i've worked for my granddad. Im guessing thats because its family and i could be lien. But im going to fax it to them first thing in the morning.

I'm 21 yrs old, getting married on oct. 7th. And will have a little one in 6 months. I've talked it over with the fiance and she doesnt mind the weeks without seeing me. So thats not an issue. And from what im seeing the pay is pretty good. The lady on the phone told me they start out at .33 per mile. Sounds good to me and the ole lady.

So... BARITONE and other experienced millis drivers... ive got lots of questions but im not going to throw them at u all at once :) lol

What do i need to do to get started? That's the biggest question at the moment.

Welcome aboard! First you will need to get your cdl temps/permit from your home state of residence, and you will need to get the exam. You will need the long form for this and though the examiner should have these sometimes they don't. I would recommend getting it off the internet and taking it with you just in case.

Once accepted by Millis and you have your reservation they will send you paperwork and will include a list of items you will need for class. I hope this helps ya and good luck.

Thanks Bear! The DMV is closed on mondays here so im going to go get a book tomorrow to start studying. I talked to alice today when i sent her my w2s and she said she has to send my app to a guy and he does the approving. So we will see what happens!

Do you guys get paid every week or bi-weekly? And what is some average miles per week? do they keep you above 2000?

Congrats! We get paid every Tuesday. Miles have been up and down lately but yes 99% of the time it is above 2000.

    1. Paper
    2. Glue
    3. No 3 Pencils
    4. Big ##### ruler
    5. Scooby Do lunch box

Just kidding - good set of gloves, rain gear (depending on the weather), Note book for notes during class and videos, small clear ruler (for your log book) and if you're staying in the hotel bring some of your own food. You'll save alot of money that way.

Congrats and keep us posted on your training!
