I go to school at the Trenton terminal. Bill is my instructor, and I had heard the last class at the Trenton school went to Wisconsin.

You probably figured it out, but for newbies, if your gear is soooo low that the trailer king pin overshoots the 5th wheel when backing under the trailer i.e.: The King pin is now in front of the 5th wheel, you can easily pull the truck forward of the king pin, by:
1.) Use a 2 by 4 or any piece of wood to lift the back of the 5th wheel, lowering the front of the 5th wheel (so when you pull forward, the king pin might ride back up the 5th wheel, allowing the truck to be in proper position). This allows you to start all over and to raise the landing gear, lowering the trailer. Note: It'll be easier to raise the landing gear while the king pin is propped up atop the 5th wheel, raising the weight of the trailer off the landing gear.
2.) If the 2 by 4 don't quite work, you can lower the suspension from the switch on the dashboard, lowering the 5th wheel so you might be low enough that when you pull forward, the king pin won't get stuck on the 5th wheel.kewphotog Thanks this. -
I have to admit im a newbie but I did grow up around trucking but yea i get what your saying cause yesterday i was in Effingham Illinois doing a drop and hook and had to fight with the landing gear cause the gearing was in a bind not the frist time it happened i always wondered why but guess I know now you be safe driver

Today I tested out on everything but the blind side parallel. Two others tested out today. Aside from myself, two more to go. Confident everyone will pass.

How's it going Gemini?

Sorry I haven't been updating how things have been going.
In in the past couple of days, we have worked on our backing. I did really well on that and on Wednesday we had to test out on backing. I did good, but I could use some work on blindside parallel.
today, we went out on the road. I had a ton of trouble downshifting. We used a 13 speed on the range, but drove a 10 speed out on the road, so it is a different shifting pattern, so as I would downshift, I would forget the pattern. Also, downshifting, I didn't let my RPM's get low enough.
Some more practice, and I will be nailing it every time. Tomorrow we are supposed to be doing some city driving, so we will see how it goes.
i will say that our instructor has the patience of a rock. I would have pulled all my hair out, but he just has this way of calming you down as you start to stress out.Danvitt Thanks this. -
