I wish I'd had the time to have them work on it. I was standing at the window when the supervisor was handing out work. His first words were, "We're all going to be busy all day. No holes." So guess who didn't been mention "APU fault?"

That's one of one details the money people don't care about when they're thinking about making a multi-million dollar purchase; there are experts who deal with it and all the other issues later.

Your solutions are good ones. My guess is the executive team will debate the pros and cons as they move forward. Heck, I've got a truck about to to turn 300,000 miles. The next truck I drive could be...nope. Not even going to say it.

This rumor is not true. The company can run off of both at the same time and there has been no glitch. In fact there are some Heartland trucks that are actually running on the Qualcomm already prior to the merge. No decision has been made yet which one will work better, Peoplenet or Qualcomm. Peoplenet seems to be investing more in technology than Qualcomm and from what I have heard more people like the ease of operating the system. Would be curious to know your opinions from those of you who are familiar with both?

Very good idea to solicit opinions..

as I said..I doubted the rumor anyway. Couldn't believe that issue wasn't addressed beforehand.

And I do believe when I was in the meeting with Larry and Scott that Scott mentioned the very same thing you just said.

now.. I hope you don't do like the FMCSA and gather driver opinions only to ignore them... lol

for the sake of the drivers I wish you guys well...

Well I have used Qualcom in the past and am using People Net now. As it stands right now, I like the People Net System. It is much easier for me to use and I like that I can read all of the messages while in motion. No, you cannot respond but you can read them. I like that it knows when you get to the shipper or the receiver and lets you put yourself at the location with one touch of a button. It also sends the loaded and empty macros right away and you can save them to reply to later.

I absolutly despise the PeopleNet in my truck. I am considering changing lease Companies because of the PeopleNet.

I have broken three screens with my fist. It may be just the implementation but it is the worst piece of end user electronics I have used in my life.

They also issued a major software update the week before DOT hell week last year that made it even less user friendly.

I was running with out of date user manuals during, and the week after till my co got updated user manuals printed.

I actually prefer the old 3 line Qualcomms to this piece of junk.

I've used both and prefer PeopleNet because it allows reading while in motion; my current QC speaker system works but my previous one didn't. PeopleNet also asks if you're near the shipper/receiver while in motion. No waiting until you're completely stopped to send a QC msg. But I'm used to this now; I would get used to PPN if it was put in my truck.

    Anything but paper logs.

GTI trucks are running with an APU.

Currently HTLD trucks running with a 1500 watt Purkey inverter, Espar bunk heater for when its cold. When it is too hot you idle and run HVAC. When it is extremely cold, you idle as well. Also experimenting with some Freightliners with Opti-idle, but that is not the standard at this time.

I would be interested to hear why you would prefer an APU assuming you do and what it gives you that the other features don't. For the purpose of this question, please forget about the Opti-idle for the time being, as it has its own set of issues and I don't want muddy the comparison with that. I also am not interested in any comments on cost effectiveness, or what other carriers are or aren't doing. I am only interested in hearing how it affects your personal comfort or convenience better than inverter/bunk heater/idling does.

    1) Sleep better with APU than Idleing.

    2) APU keeps the batteries topped up If you need to park with lights on for added safety or are watching way too much TV waiting for an appointment. Also keeps fridge working if parked for Home time. (Sour Milk = BAD).
