I have no skin in this game but I read this thread closely because I think there are a bunch of guys here that just want to work hard and make a decent living for themselves and their family.

I hate to see that you have to leave Joseph. You are probably the exact opposite of me with every belief you have other then your work ethic. I can respect that and I hope you can find a better situation for yourself.

I'm lucky that I work for a 2 truck outfit which is me and the boss and he heads south half of the year. If I wanted to own some trucks and hire some guys it would be easy pickings here.

I'm the exact opposite of many but I do believe in hard work. And I support anyone willing to work. Too many aren't, and it's disheartening to see that. I like to work. And I'm going to go where I will be allowed to make money.

Man you guys are all leaving DD and I. Good luck Joseph and let us know where you end up at. I had to play local driver in Seattle and surround areas today. did 3 stops and 288 miles for 14 hours.

I dont even want to think how much I made I would be 2 depressed to think about it.

I think Tow and I are going to have one about our experiences outside of GTI and hopefully all of our ex-GTI friends will join in. Newtrucker, Chowick, Blu, etc. A place for the "band" to get back together. GTI was a great company and has a lot of good people. But since the acquisition, the culture has certainly changed and not for the better. A lot of good people may lose their jobs as a result, and no fault of GTI or Heartland, it's just business and things need to come together instead of overlapping everywhere.

This is one of the points all of us have addressed on here. Heartland are known for very little accessorial pay and I have heard from several of their drivers (although I do not take what every other driver says as 100% accurate 100% of the time) that they do not pay short haul pay. These kind of runs at GTI have increased markedly since I came on board and significantly since HTLD took over, I think as an attempt to lower the deadhead miles??

As a sideline while I appreciate the attempts that heartofatrucker has made when coming on here to address certain concerns there are areas where he has singularly failed to do so. Specifically he has not addressed a single time any actual numbers as regards to drivers leaving GTI with 5+ years or any level of tenure with GTI, how quickly they are being replaced and the net loss/gain of drivers post buyout. I saw PLENTY of unseated trucks especially at Indy. Another issue that he likes to skirt around is the trucks, as I suspect that the GTI spec trucks that are arriving are largely because of contractual agreements there they are unable to get out of and what spec trucks are going to emerge AFTER GTI's orders are done with. Also he has not addressed what happens when a current HTLND driver is issued a ticket for idling in a no-idle state (and yes, I admit that there most likely are a very rare occurrence. However, that does not make it any less of an illegal act regardless of how stupid a law it is.). Another issue singularly failed to address is the aging reefer fleet any plans to replace, upgrade the older trailers? While these issues are ignored they will continue to lose experienced drivers in my view.

My problem all along with the buyout has been the lack of transparency of LONG TERM strategies and plans. It has all been "going forward" and "no immediate plans", well that is all fine and dandy but I feel that although we are not owed anything necessarily by Heartland we at least deserved some idea to what the long term strategies are, again specifically with regard to truck specs (HTLND or GTI specs, APU's or no APU's - and yes, I know GTI are still taking delivery of GTI labelled and spec's but what about when they are completed). These are important to drivers as we spend more time in them than we do with our families.

As I have said before I left with very little rancor (other than a certain person in maintenance). I have never wanted to work for HTLND and still do not. Many people do and most of those are happy....good luck to them!!
