With the economy being this way, some things are bound to happen. To me it was today when I got diagnosed with shingles. I'll be honest and say I'm glad this is not life threatening. A huge sigh of relief and the victory dance is in order. I thought it was cat scratch fever as cat scratches me all the time. Well my doctor informed me no and gave me new medicine. Am I a little irritated? Yes (and who wouldn't be) as I have been rejected by a lot of companies not wanting to hire me. I have some interesting prospects but refuse to let this rash stand in my way just because I am stressed out.
God Bless,
KH

What happened to Swift? Thought you were going there?

KH, stress is a biggie with the shingles. Try to keep yourself calm as you can. Take the medicine religiously, cuz it really helps. Hopefully you'll be on the up side in no time. Sorry your going through this though. I've been there, its no fun.

there is an amino acid that tends to ###### the virus. Forgot what it is. Shingles IIRC is a form of herpes.
-
Herpes Zoster or the chicken pox virus. NOT STD herpes. Once you've contracted chicken pox, it stays on your nerve endings the rest of your life and it can be triggered into shingles.
They say that the vaccination has no track record or I would have gotten it by now, but I'm not playing guinea pig. -
And your point? that stuff works on cold sores too.
Herpes is a virus, I've had chicken pox twice. 53 and no shingles so far!
What word did I type that got auto censored??? -
I'm not sure, Rug. Just wanted to clarify for anyone out there that might think the worst. LOL
My 22 year old, who had a whopping case of chicken pox, is currently getting over the shingles. Simply because he's stressed out. College and working and home projects. It can afflict anyone at any time in their life. Though it is most common in the elderly.
I had recurrences of it, and it nearly took my hearing in my left ear. Its no fun, for sure. -
Wish I could remember the name of that stuff.

Rug! I too have had chicken pox twice. It was crazy. And I've had shingles that act up periodically.
There are a number of herpes viruses and traditionally only #2 was considered an STD. The fact is.....herpes 1 & 2 are almost identical and idea of it being an STD is only due to the site where the blisters choose to form.
King......Bullhauler's wife is absolutely right, stress will factor greatly into whether your shingles acts up or not. I try very hard to find ways to relieve my stress.
You're in my prayers.twinrose and bullhaulerswife Thank this. -
Me too! LOL If you remember in the middle of the night or something Post here, but PM me too.

I can tell when I'm going to get them, so the doc put me on a standing prescription. Its like someone stabbing me in the head with a knife.
If you take the meds like 48-72 hours before the break out occurs, its far easier on you.
