I went to a Waffle House. Once. 5 years ago in Alabama. And that was enough.

Well, I have children and grandchildren in Oklahoma and I do love me some Waffle House...!

Thank you for the compliment. It's nice to know some of my musings matter.

Analyzing my vast experience in this flatbed business, I have learned one very critical factor. In this field, probably more than any other, good training is essential for early and continued success.

As those regular readers will remember, I did not get good training and I'm paying the price with every new first-time load.

Today, it's lumber. 47,000 pounds of it, to be accurate. It should be a snap to secure, right? I mean, it's planed, flat, stacked, and bound. There are no round or sharp edges, and the pieces are of consistent size.

But it's not stable and it likes to move, so securing it properly is essential...and I never learned how. Fortunately, I do have the business cards of some of the company's Elite Trainers and securement specialists, and it's a good thing, too. Sharing a few texts with one of them showed me the error of my way with this load. Hopefully, with her input and more work tomorrow, my wood won't move.

I do have all weekend to make the trip to Tennessee and I plan on making sure my lumber doesn't get limber and leave!

    An afterthought.

I've watched the TMC flatbed drivers do their thing, the same thing I do, often with the same product (like today with lumber) and I have to say I am impressed with how they operate. My guess is their training program is a good training program. And their trucks are pretty nice, too.

Me, too! I wish the PFJ execs would invest in some WH franchises instead of those McD's that don't take the Pilot card.

Waffles and points. A winning combination!

Mtn Gal and tow614 Thank this.

That was some nasty chicken, I must say. It's not an experience I want to repeat any time soon. Like Joe, once every 5 years would be enough.
