And waiting 6½ hours (so far) for my trailer to be returns full of stuff isn't helping the miles. I'm going to be challenged to make my on-time delivery many large, wide states away at 0915-1015 Tuesday morning...

I never wanted that kind of driving. The closest I got to it was WEL Companies. Along with 1-stop truckloads, they also did many multi-stop trips crossing the country, so they were kind of like LTL OTR.

Now to sleep in rural America. When I wake, it will be 0200 and the nationwide DOT harassment...um, I mean INSPECTION experience will have begun. I surely did notice many more Commercial Vehicle Inspection vehicles driven by the Iowa State Police today than any other time I've been here; and i didn't see any 'regular' state police vehicles. Showing the flag? Preparing for all the stops they will make? Time will tell.

IA jumps the gun , so to speak, getting the guys sneaking around the coops, and changing the timeline, usually they work it starting the Sunday before.

The thing about this crazy industry is there's something for everyone's taste. Like long haul for weeks at a time? Covered. Want to be home fairly regularly. Got it. How about sleep in your own bed every night? Bingo. Same with carrying really dangerous things that can hurt you and every other living thing, items that take up 3 lanes of traffic (saw one last night!), frozen ice cream, bananas, onions (yuck) tires, boxes, US mail, or dry goods...

Whatever you want in trucking, it's there.

Last year for the Blitz I was on I-40 in AZ and they had cops in every widespot and exit ramp pulling trucks over, inspecting on the off ramps and everywhere. It was insane, I've never seen it like that. I had to pull into 3-4 rest areas and somehow didn't get pulled in but I did notice that even though the speed limit was 70 or higher and I was able to run 75, that the cops were pulling over any truck going over 70

Strange. After all the work up and visibility yesterday, I didn't see any police in Iowa, Minnesota, and so far in North Dakota. Not one. Well, I take that back. There were two local officers responding Code 3 to a truck-versus-small car MVA. I think the car lost, but the truck was almost in the ditch off the right side of the roadway.
