If there is not support for this move to Western, it will be a bad transition, which will make it even more difficult as the weather changes later on. He should get back with his top choices now, while he can. WE loses drivers every day; it's part of their business model.

By the way, Western is basically a Monday-Friday company for the flatbed division. There are many weekends staying at truck stops with lots of other flatbedders. So far, none of them have been anywhere near my home.

That's what I thought. A "Loan Covenant" and "Covenant Transport" are 2 entirely different things.

His ex's husband told him he needs to stay somewhere 6-12 months to get on with somewhere good. I couldn't find out much in the 3 days I had to look up companies & reviews between sight seeing in Nashville & driving. WE called while I was in the shower! Guess I should have skipped that one! Ha! His ex's husband (mind you he's a creepy guy missing several teeth, big step down for his ex! IMO anyway!) told him WE is a good company. He did tell him not to go with Werner. They had better offers. $700 a week for training & I think their rider policy is age 10 & up. Still, McElroy was top choice & I really liked that they were being so thorough with information.

DenaliDad I follow your thread here and there and see you post about weekend loads. I worked at Melton and made their top 100 drivers most every month and I still sat most weekends. I liked Melton and would recommend them to anyone. It's a flatbed thing.

In a little over a year the only thing I can remember picking up on a Saturday was hay. Thats why most flatbed companies have weekends off.

I was just going from information that a WE recruiter told me back in 2006 i believe that covenant had purchased them and one of their drivers told me the same thing in 2013...perhaps they were mistaken..

This is true for the most part almost all the places flatbedders pick up from and deliver to are closed on the weekends. But like I said before, work with your DM so that you're driving over the weekend. Picking up on Fri. for a Mon or Tues. delivery works wonders for the weekly miles and consequently for the paycheck. Not having to strap or tarp anything for a couple of days is also nice. I almost never sat on the weekends.

Another thing, do you have your TWIC card, and are you Canadian eligible? These 2 "selling points" may not help you with WE but might be important if you move on. I think the longest drive in my career was picking up some crated machinery at the port of Los Angles to deliver to Yellowknife NWT. Looong time ago. Don't remember needing a TWIC card back then, but you do now. I took several loads to Canada when other drivers weren't eligible.

Another night spent in a shipper's parking lot because I ran out of time. This one isn't bad, though. The lot is large and quiet and the best part...

    DOMINOS DELIVERED ME TWO SANDWICHES!

I actually get to eat FOOD tonight, not just fill my belly with water. Mmmmm!!
