My new, final resting place

It's been a couple of very full days. Lots of almost-14 hours and several broken things needing to be fixed. Fortunately, this company just gets them fixed. I missed a triple fatal accident in metro Detroit by just an hour or so, and I'm happy about that.

And now I'm parked in a Pilot in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, because I got here late and the Love's across the street is packed. This place is unique in that almost all the parking spaces are blondside backing. And there is lots of ice and snow berms, so I'm sleeping on an angle. No worries, though. I am in and will sleep.

I have a 0900 delivery appointment so I'll be getting up a bit earlier to fuss with the inbound Milwaukee commute. After that...who knows, but I'll bet I have to go back through Chicago.

    Oh boy.

Next night, another stopover in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, this time at the Love's since I got here early enough; I have a 0200 planned departure eastbound to our Allentown terminal.

All I can say is I am glad this day is done. Calls from a daughter, the clerk of the court in Michigan (asking why I didn't show up for jury duty today), and very bad news from my bank...

I just hope this is as bad as it gets...

Well, 2825 miles last week. Not too shabby.

The clerk already excused me once and said she can't do it again; any further action is up to her boss, the Judge. We'll see...

And after this drop in Allentown, I pick up in Milton (I'll have to find out where that is) for another 980-miler back to Wisconsin.

And I got a new DM; I liked my old one, but he only kept the new hires for a couple of weeks. And he gets all of them, so there's no way to stay on his board. So far, the new guy seems to be working out. He's experienced and friends with my old one, so here's hoping it's a good match.

It's good to be 5 hours early for your pickup, right?

It's a balance; on the one hand, you have delays resulting from an unexpected live unload, not a drop/hook, and a major traffic accident with an associated freeway shutdown, both of which together caused a 2.5 hour loss of time and the resulting shortness of HOS. On the other hand, you have the shipper who will let me take my break on their property - I think they must be the last one in the country.

So, balancing all factors, this isn't a bad thing; my delivery appt is 24-hours wide and won't be negatively hurt.

Ah, trucking. When you think you've seen it all and that life is boring, something new pops up to change that.

I'm not sure how its done where you are from but usually OTR drivers can be excused because you're out of town and not knowing that you had jury duty and your elogs can vouch for that

Mtn Gal and tsavory Thank this.

Well, I haven't heard from them this week, so maybe that's good news. Or a court deputy is parked outside my house, waiting...

Oh, how wrong I am. Contrary to what Super DM says, they do not allow overnight parking. So, being completely out of HOS, once they finish loading me (they haven't even started yet) I will have to leave immediately and head to some safe haven, somewhere.

    Oh boy.
