More regulations are not the answer. It needs to be between the parties doing business and the government has no business stepping in. Think about the other side of your statement. Are you guys that want mandatory detention pay willing to pay the shippers/receivers for their time when you're late for your appointment? Do you think they will be willing to work with you being a little late or do you think they will make you reschedule for the following day or later when you're late if the government steps in? For all you, I or anyone knows some of the big companies probably negotiate contracts leaving detention pay out just to get the work.

Sorry DD, back to your regular thread now.

Us truckers have too much alone time spent thinking of new ways to fix the system

I interrupt this program (because I can do that, you know) to bring you another episode of My Favorite Rant.

    The DOT 30-minute break.

They require that I take 30 minutes every 8 hours. Sometimes, I take it half way through and sometimes I take it near the end. And sometimes I take two or three in 8 hours, depending on how tired I am. STRIKE THAT. I'm never "tired," so to speak, of course; I just sometimes want to. <how's that?!?>

    Anyway.....

They mandate that I take that 30 minutes as Off Duty, not performing company-mandated chores, so why doesn't my 14-hour On Duty clock stop, too? I mean, I'm OFF DUTY. Arrrggghhh!

I know, I know...stop fighting City Hall and just go with it.

Tune in next time for another exciting episode of My Favorite Rant. I now return you to your - and my - regularly scheduled boredom.

Under the new CEO we have, WEL actually makes other payments for the drivers as much as possible. They don't fight detention/layover payments as much as others and there are times they pay even without my asking. It's probably because Bruce was a driver for the company for a long time and knows how mistreated we are as a group. He ho early wants to make things better.

Now of my colleague drivers would just slow down and start obeying posted traffic signs, perhaps our CSA Unsafe score would drop and my PrePass would let me bypass more scales...

Sounds like WEL has the same issues with the CSA scores as my employer does. Talking to the Safety Supervisor recently, he said speeding was our #1 problem regarding CSA scores. We also don't get many bypass lights.

When companies go from prospective drivers having to be on a waiting list in order to get hired on, to hiring anyone who can fog a mirror, the companies get what they deserve in most new recruits.

Always heard if you say it enough you will begin to believe it. Let me know if that is true or not. Anyway hope it gets better.

So far, only 6,900 miles this month. And I doubt I'll get 3,100 in the next 8 days.

    Poor. Pi$$ poor.

And the thing is they've identified the TWO states in which we get the 'yu-u-uge' percentage of tickets and have identified repeat offenders. But we only keep getting emails...

And they keep hiring 10 every week.

But hey! I did have 3 resets this month, including 2 resets in one week and a half dozen 24-hour breaks - like yesterday's, to deliver 1,500 pounds of frozen pizza to the Baltimore Public Schools.

Seriously, people. Can't we plan things a wee bit more efficiently?
