Nothing wrong wwith my spec, or at least I hope so. Just originally I planned to order with 6X2 axle configuration and a direct drive 10 speed tranny. A few moths back we had good conversations about it with other fellow forumers.
I was surprised and happy when I saw the T680 at the MATS last year, while I was shopping around for my new truck. I think Paccar put lot of effort to develop it and important mile stone for them. I would not be surprised to see a new W900 to be built on this platform too. Anyway, I hope I will be as happy to have it as satisfied I am for what I saw of it so far.... I am starting to get excited. I have to to start to scratch together the pennies... Only one month left... This will be my first brand new truck and probably the last one too. We will grow old together.

Would there be a way to make it work with the PACCAR MX? I'm really shocked, with as many people going to direct, that they don't offer that option.

There are three O/O just put there trucks back to 6x4. Two have 6nz cats one with a 12.7 det all had trouble wheel spin. Wheel hop on dry road. If it rains and you stop at the top of an off ramp on a grade fully load you are going burn one tire with 1850 ft lb of torque = wheel spin. they spent ALOT money going to one drive axle then more to put it back. I'm just glad I had these men to talk to. The 12.7 det guy is having his switch back this week. He had three tow bills to get over mountains in PA on two lane roads that where snow covered. He hauls cattle loaded to max with a dump valve on the rear axle and it still would spin out. They all had problems when fully load could never getting in the throttle on hard pulls or steep grades. They all said wet road was just like driving on ice. Trucks today put a lot of power out to the wheels to use it all you need to spread it out to both axles. One of the cat guy's has super singles he's lucky to get 150000 mile out of the drive axle tires. After talking to these men I will never think of a single drive axle again.

All this insanity brought to you by Kevin Rutherford and Bruce Malinson. Two nation leading specialists on how to screw a trucker and make money out of it. On the other side, those screwed are not the brightest bulbs in the class either - to think that for all these years we were wrong with 6x4 is nuts

I think you did a fine job on your specs. I had a 2000 classic xl with a 12.7 Detroit close to that, 2.93's with a .86 o/d 13 sp and pulling my step around I would stay around 6.8-7.2 running @ 62mph.

Spinning out and needing towing, even with full lockers in the drive axle? Or did they overlook that little nugget.

I'd believe they spun out even with full lockers. We're experiencing a pretty good snowfall as I type. Earlier today with about 3 inches on the ground, a single axle Fed Ex Freight set of doubles in front of me was having MUCH difficulty getting started from a stop at a red light with a SLIGHT incline through the intersection. I was empty, and eased right by him, even without my power divider locked in, noticing both of his drive wheels spinning. It took that poor guy a good minute to get through that intersection.

As long as we're in the subject, it reminds me of the time about 18 months ago that I ran into one if the red 6x2 gliders built by Bruce, that was sold to the cattle hauling outfit out of Oklahoma, at a fuel stop. I asked him how he liked the truck. He told me it ran great ( if you left the Power Box on 1 - he said it had dropped a liner the first time he ran it on 4). When I pointed to the dead axle and asked him how that was working, he said he'd never have another one. He told me how they would get hung up everywhere, and that they'd go through tires on the live axle every 50,000 miles.

I'll be sticking with a 6x4 configuration for a while I imagine. It might be fine for box freight on the big road, but put a little weight on, combined with a little bit of power, and then get off the beaten path to find out how well it REALLY works.

Whata deal he got from PP - just one dropped liner and 4 new tires every few months. Thats all it cost him to have such a great, wheel spinning rig. Bwahahahahahhahhhhaaa

I am lucky Kenworth did not want to build a 6X2 T680 for me. However I mad at them, because there was not available a smart person there to explain to me why not. They just brought up every unbelievable stupid reasons. It took months and months of research to figure out the truth. But I also have to admit, Volvo, Freightliner, International would throw into my truck without a second thought. One young dealer told me Kenworth do not want to build into their truck anything what is not tested to death.. And they are right. To build a truck more than put together every available parts. I still believe the 6X2 configuration has future, but it will be at least the second, perhaps later generation, what will be a viable option in certain applications. But until they need a bunch of guinea pigs, and I am very happy I do not become one of them.
