Your kind of high strung arent you? :) A lot of stressful situations can sometimes be avoided if you just slow down and relax a little, otherwise problems will just compound themselves and make you even more stressed.
Glad you got it all squared away without any terrible problems. Hows the late delivery going to go over? Is that considered a service failure?

Ha ya I know. I'm in a decent mood now actually. I've found that this industry is a lot like this though. You have your bad days and your good days. Today I got one of those bad ones.

I look at this way. With all the crap I went through today. I ended up having to do around 8 alley docks in total today, 2 of them blindside. And I was pretty successful. So while I was pissed off at times, I was also very proud of myself for accomplishing these things on my own with little to no problems. I'm also happy I'm still alive, didn't hurt anyone, didn't wreck anyone, and didn't destroy any equipment. So while it was a 'bad' day. It was also a good day.

Not sure about the late delivery. My FM never really said anything to me regarding it. I told him the crank handle was broke at the drop yard, so might go on as an equipment problem. Plus I told him ahead of time I was running behind. He did give me a load right after and preplanned me for this Kentucky run. So I don't think hes too pissed off.

If you don't feel the truck physically lift the trailer up GOAL!!!!! What you did would be instant termination at a lot of companies if they found out about it.

Not to pile on here, but one thing has nothing to do with the other.

Busted crank handle does not cause a high hook. Only thing it causes is an inability to lower the trailer to meet the fifth wheel.

You simply didn't get out and look.

No light between the fifth wheel and the trailer plate... Flush before the jaws engage.

Its very possible to high hook the pin just enough to appear hooked. Where the jaws arent fully engaged around the portion if the pin it should be.
Ask the guy at the terminal that got from the trailer yard to the slight downhill turn to the right in front of the parked tractors. He went right. The trailer didn't and disconnected.

Yup, saw the same up in DE at the TA at exit 103 (?) - one of our guys hooked on a trailer - very heavy, pulled straight out and BANG! Dropped it. About half a dozen of us spent quite awhile helping him crank it up to get under it again. Gotta be real careful about that. This guy was very lucky... it just went straight down, no damage.

We're all well advised to back up to the trailer, get out and look, and THEN back under it. Every time. Besides, that's the only way you can really inspect the kingpin and glide plate.

Just remember, Seebs, whatever doesn't kill you just makes you stronger. It seems that you've packed a whole bunch of "stronger" into one trip. And survived.

By the way, your FM isn't talking to you, but did the poor, defenseless trailer survive the beating? :)

I actually did get out and look. I tried to crank the trailer down but the handle was broke so I was unable too. So being in the rush I was in I went for it.

As I said. I learn from my mistakes. Had a similar thing happen at a shipper yesterday and just found a yard dog to lift it up so I could crank it down instead.

As for today. Drove to Wisconsin and dropped the Sam's Club load. Then bob tailed over to Kraft to pick up the load to Kentucky. Ended up having it repowered (didn't have enough hours for it) at a crap Pilot truck stop outside of...yes...you guessed it...Chicago!

Anyway. Sitting with an empty now at a TA. No load planned as of yet. Overall, was a pretty decent day. I had Taco Bell. Which for me, makes anyday wonderful. I talked to my mother. I talked to ord for like 4 hours. I talked to my trainer. And I didn't kill anyone. All in all, not the worst day.

    Heres to a good tomorrow.
