Not once was lease pushed on hubby when he was working for Prime. Both his trainers were lease ops.

I like the idea of leasing, to eventually make a truck purchase if I like it. Problem is, I have nobody to coach me on how to actually be successful on that side of the business.

Don't get me wrong, Prime is my NumberOne choice when I finally get things wrapped-up here and start to apply. The TruckingTruth.com webpage has been immensely helpful and I've been studying for the CDL/endorsements for awhile. I'll have to apply to a few places, but Prime looks like the best fit for me. I won't even have a "home" when I start driving OTR, this new way of life, so "home-time" won't be that important to me. I would actually prefer three/four days off somewhere different every month-to-six-weeks!!

Bones, I'm real happy for you. I'm wondering what model are these "lightweight" trucks that I've been hearing so much about? And, are you in one now? Either way, what are you driving, what engine/tranny, and how is it? I'm giving them serious thought, and it would be nice to compare to what other companies are offering. Thanks and good luck.

I am presently in a full sized Cascadia with my trainer. DD15 engine, 10 speed condo.
The two LW trucks I've seen internally are the 2013 Pete (dunno the model number), and the 2014 Cascadia compact, which sports a DD13 engine, 10 speed tranny, and a shorter wheelbase.
Of the two, I would prefer the Cascadia, due to its greater cab space. The passenger seat is removed, allowing you to fit whatever you like there in its stead. The side cabinets in the sleeper are absent, as is the upper bunk. There are small compartments where the upper bunk would be, and rather than floor space where the cabinets would be, the rack starts instead, reducing the livable space by roughly half.
That reduced space is precisely why the Freightliner is superior to Pete in my opinion; there is lesser ####pit space in the Pete, and zero standing room, of which the Cascadia has in droves (comparably). -
A general comment... Learn to use the search function, especially in the Prime forum! The Pete 386's are all going away - they like to roll over. Prime is going to a small Prostar in it's place - not sure about the engine at this point, but it should be a Cummins; and the Cascadia. There were about half a dozen new ones outside of Driver's Lineup yesterday. The detail shop will pull the passenger seat if you decide you want the space rather than a rider, install a TV mount, a refrigerator - you have to buy this stuff. There are some pictures in this thread... http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/prime/190273-lightweights.html
poisonarmy, BigJayDragon and superpet39 Thank this. -
I am using my phone for all this. Difficult to find certain things. Only just found the Prime forum this evening, using a button cleverly hidden in plain sight.
