    Too true.

The common misconception is that LW trucks and ECO49s are for fuel efficiency - this is patently false. The weight is solely for the ability to haul more product.

It is very rare to have anything less than a bunch of junk in one's proverbial trunk.

As far as the Pumpkin patch is concerned, I have never had first hand dealings with them, but a buddy who went through the same tech school as I to get our CDLs went there, and quit quite shortly thereafter, saying that they push and almost force leasing on you, and it ruined him.

JB I know nothing of first hand, either, however, i did run in to a trucker just outside of OKC who was hiding from the tornadoes with me and some other truckers during the recent armaggeddon, and he said that he left them because the miles weren't there any more, after driving for them for 12 years, and they cut the base pay of all their drivers. A thread on that very topic can be found here: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...ny-here/209692-jb-hunt-dcs-new-pay-scale.html

Prime has three main divisions: Reefer, Tanker, and Flats. We send them either OTR or regional, depending on what is needed. We also have a few dedicated accounts, but I only know about the Reefer side on those.

There is also Prime Floral, but I dunno if that counts as a division, a section of Reefer, or a whole different company.

Doesn't matter what trailer you are pulling. Just that you are driving the lightweight truck.

I've read several threads about Prime but I have a question about the pay. You start out at 41cpm because you are in a l/w truck. How long do you stay in a l/w and what happens to your pay? I mean, if at some point you are moved out of the l/w, does your pay drop due to that .05cpm bonus? Or is everyone in a l/w unless you are an instructor or trainer? Also, do you get the miles at .41?

I don't remember seeing anything about that in the threads I've read.

If you want a larger truck, you need to talk to your FM. I was offered a condo, even though I'd "officially" have gone into a lightweight when I turned in my last company truck. My FM wanted to keep me around. Ways out... teaming with another driver, training or jumping to the lease side.

Yes, you loose the lightweight bonus, but you'd make that up with the team pay, or the instructor/trainer pay. Not sure exactly how that would work out though. Been gone from the company side for some time now.

Not entirely. If they run out of lightweights due to production issues there are folks who have been put into a full-sized truck, but that's rare.

From what I've been hearing from the company side, that's a yes. It does depend on the economy, and how bad the idiots in Washington screw-up the works. Things seem to be a little softer right now since they decided to "sequester" the budget.

There ya go! Anyone else have an opinion here?

Like I said about not seeing those questions before, I think alot of people looking at prime see the .41cpm and stop asking about pay.

It gets bettet than .41 cents dont forget you can get a fuel bonus of up to an additional .06 cents per mile. So if you do it right that is .47 cents per mile. I think that is by far the best pay for someone who has never driven. Give up a little bit of space for more money. You can always have thw passenger seat removed on the l/w trucks to make more space.

Does Prime offer a 7/7 OTR option? Anything similar? I have been accepted to Prime and the pay is hard to beat for a new driver that needs to get a CDL and training. I was told .41 in the LW Truck to start plus bonus and school would be free as long as I stayed with Prime for 6 months min.

What's a 7/7 OTR option? Unless things have changed it's free after a year running solo. It goes by very quickly.

7/7 is you drive 7 days OTR 48 states then home 7 days. You share a truck with one other driver. You need to be located very close to a yard/terminal at have the same smoking preference. Roehl and Knight both offer this in the reefer division here in Ohio. Prime is on my short list and they have already accepted me. Knight does not train unless you live in AZ so I can not start with them.
