Hello everyone, My name is Ron and for over the past year I been thinking about changing careers and finally started to take the steps too. Recently I've been searching the internet and doing some research with different motor carrier schools and happen to stumble upon this thread. After reading this thread entirely, it just about answered most of my questions. So far I am leaning towards Prime INC and Millis Transfer INC. Obviously just like any and all other schools they each have their are pros and cons. After reading threw this thread last night (from beginning to end) I pretty much decided to go prime instead of millis. This is because from what I've read up starting pay can either be $0.39 or $0.41? Depending on if you take a light weight eco truck or not and what division you pick. Your able to take a pet with you under 40LBS if you so choose as well. Millis seems to have a better vacation policy but that isn't really all that important to me at the present moment. The one thing I do like about millis that prime doesn't seem to offer is a additional mileage bonus after being out for over 21 days continuously. I guess that would be where prime's LW truck $0.05 bonus would be beneficial? Overall I think prime would be the better decision for me. My issue is my current employment history and a incident that took place over 8 years ago this month. The last job where I received a pay check weekly was about 2 years ago. Since then I've just been doing odd jobs here and there for different people and myself while searching for a full time that would be worth while. Needless to say I am still out of work and still trying to find a job. I am to the point where I'll take almost anything without being a slave. So how would I go about explaining that to the company? What should I do? I'll try to get maybe a letter from each of my previous employers if needed be. But I just think that when they see I was out of work for two years, they will just instantly deny me. Now for the incident that took place over eight years ago. The court the charges would be dismissed after I completed probation or PTI. So I'm not really sure if that will be an issue when being hired but it could be I suppose. Other then that I have a good driving record. The only thing is I rear ended a driver once on the tappan zee bridge. So I don't what is on my driving record about that because both cars where fine and I believe I had to pay $800 to get my car fixed. How will this effect me? Should I go down to my dmv and get my driving abstract? That way I will know what is on my driving record so there is no surprises? Any answers are more then welcome and appreciated, I hope to be in a prime truck in about a month or two.
Thank you to JimmyBones for starting this thread and answering most of my questions. Thank you Ironpony as well.

Yeahh ""sigh"" that is what I kind of figured. Do you think it would be worth talking to a recruiter first maybe? Just to get a little input from the company side? I really wish that this wasn't even an issue, I have a great work ethic just can't find a job. I haven't even collected unemployment during these past two years. I guess either way I'll find away to get aboard prime, it might just take a bit longer than I anticipated
. Who knows maybe when I call and talk to a recruiter they'll be able to shed some light on my situation.
Thank you for the response Ironpony. Much appreciated.

To be honest is the unemployment issue that's causing me to have to become a trainer.
My stepfather was in school for the last three years but then he ended up failing his state boards for nursing and so excited to come and be a trucker.
That being said with his work history being absent for the last few years I had to stand and try to push to get him in to begin with. The result is there letting him in because I'm part of the company but I also have to be the want to train him from the word go.
Getting some work history is pretty good from what I understand recruiting requires a two-year recent work history.
Also please don't mind the strange grammar and strange word substitutions. I'm using the voice activated portion of my texting, my thumbs are just too #### cold to type right now.The Challenger and rCjr07 Thank this. -
Totally understandable, I hope everything goes smoothly for your stepfather and you. I can track my employment record pretty much since my first job that I had on the books. But just to be sure I requested some information from Hireright.com to be exactly sure what is on my employment record. It's just these past two years that I am stressed out over. I guess the best answer I could possibly get would be from a recruiter most likely. Hopefully I can work for prime even if it does mean jumping through some hoops.
Thanks JB - Maybe one day you can be my instructor (if the list isn't too long lol) -
I just went from having a busted, Barney Rubble mobile trailer loaded down at 47k to having a gorgeous yacht of a trailer loaded down with 8k, with twice the miles on the trip than the first one.

I guess I'm a bit confused by exactly how much work history I need. I've been on my current job for almost 5 years. It will be 5 on July 20, 2014. I was in college for 3 years before this (graduated June 2009) and before I started this job I am on now I worked at this crappy telephone survey placed for about a month. Am I covered? I have more if needed and it's all consistently large chunk employment (2+ years) but dates are kinda vague.
