You better check this out with management before making any commitments. I'd be talking to Stan Auman or Steve Larsen first. This is one of the problems the OP had during all of this.
Thanks IP. I will try to find one them mañana. I am supposed to head out when we clear orientation tomorrow.
Do that, for sure. I had an offer for a similar gig. Deal was I would be an I/C, not anyone's employee. 1099s, no insurance, no 401K, etc. Be very careful with this.
Fortunately, I haven't signed anything. It's all been Prime. There has been no talk about being an IC but I will check before heading out. I was invited out by a Prime recruiter if that helps.
They do not want this gentleman (who is a Lease Operator) as far as I know ...and we have gone over this..because the conversations were detailed..To try and recruit drivers from the student pool...This was discussed with the highest levels at Prime, including the man himself. He basically didn't want to override the decisions made at a lower level and it ""has" happened before....all I wanted was that acknowledgement and that they not go after the guy who was training me. I was assured that this wouldnt happen. I was resigned to the fact but didnt like it, I was then told by a fairly reliable source that if I went back and asked nicely etc etc..that it could probably be allowed...THAT bothered me...whatever Like I said, I truly like PRIME...no BS but it is not as polished as it is portrayed at times, it is a large growing company and at times I think too fast to support the drivers it trains..certainly during slow times. I value what I obtained from them and like the people, I have discussed this via phone and email with fairly high levels of management. I left thanking those same people for my experience. I know it seems paradoxical posting a thread like this and saying i like the company..but I do. I have told them my experience because I believe they care and will try to improve, I wrote this thread to let people know it isnt perfect there, to fight for and stand up for themselves respectfully because they know their own situation...i have always tried to be straight up and decent to those I have disagreed with, and I seem to have garnered at least a fair amount of respect in return. If I had to do it again, I would go with PRIME...no questions in my mind..
Everyone I talked to when leaving told me if things changed to come back, My old Fleet manager is now running Pittston, when he found out I left he called immediately, THAT meant a lot, everyone I talked to has emailed me back except for Robert Low but I know he read it and he knows who I am. The guy who was going to have me run one of his trucks went to Robert Low, he didnt want to override, he gave a hands off approach as far as was relayed to me..its OK..I have an opportunity at home now. Thing is it is a loss for them, not saying that because I think I am Gods gift. I passed everything first time with exemplary scores. I can drive, I pay attention. I worked for the same company for 31 years before I came here..I am a good employee..they know that and thats why everyone has been decent and because they ARE a decent company..they have a ton of great drivers and are a class act but the reason i wrote this is to let people know, it still can be a struggle, you still have to be aware and you still are your own best advocate
there are lease operators who lease multiple trucks from Prime, as far as who the employee who drives those trucks belongs to or who actually pays them, is the point of contention...I never actually met the guy who wanted me to drive his truck, he was recommended in a similar fashion as stated here...we talked a lot, he trusted my word and I am sure did some research ...i still talk to him, he is running six trucks and has a 7th on his way, from all accounts he is a great guy..all his drivers love him
and here is one of the decent guys I met and helped me along the way, thanks, there is a lot I will miss about Prime and the people are the main part
