I drive van and have no desire to change to anything else. a guy that started with me in van did that for 4 months than went to flatbed. roehl is really good with letting you change what u pull and also with finding the right amount of hometime that fits u. ichange my days out and hometime everytime i go out and my fleet manager is cool with it. My trainer was awsome. i think a bad trainer is an exception. where ever you decide to go just remeber you should stick with until you get 1 year of experience becouse then lots of doors open.

Also i have pulled some reefers. the main difference i think is the weight on your drives and steers. its basically the same. also if loud noises bother u when you sleep you will wake up every night when the reefer cycles. i got used to it and couldnt sleep until it started cycling but the first few nights i slept horrible.

I wouldn't let my experience with a junk trainer sway you from what I think is a good company. Rest assure he was dealt with, and at the minimum is no longer training. I have some flatbed experience due to riding with a family member who has been a flatbed owner op for 24 years. The training you will receive is Going to be top notch, but remember trucking is not a job where stuff is handed to you, you are not reminded on what to do everyday and for the most part flatbed is hard work outside of driving. This is a nice industry so to say but I enjoy it and Roehl does what they can to stay safe and keep me happy. (so far)

I have a question. Do live loads pay more?

Idk what you mean. Your pay stays the same if that is what you ask. We don't get paid loading or unloading unless we physically have to load or unload it.

Hmm ok all if my loads say live load on the Qualcomm. I didn't see anything in the DRG so I figured I would ask. Also what is the amount if weight I should tell the shipper I can haul? I said 42k and got a good butt chewing from my FM. I am at 3/4 fuel wise.

What? 42k van is like 44/45k flats are about 48k-50k.. 50 is to much for me but some trucks can do it.

I don't remember what division you run, but if you said 42k for flats no wonder why the FM said something, chewing out? Uncalled for, vans I would see 42k about right.

Prostar with an east aluminum trailer can max close to 50k, I usually just say 48k.

thanks for the info. was thinking about flats because somebody else brought up the subject about the extra work helping to keep you in shape. not looking for the easy way out just looking for soomething i will enjoy. i currently work as a commercial window washer and a sub contractor for the flooring industry. carpet, vinyl, ceramic tile and other things so i am pretty good at getting things done with very minimal supervision and problem solving when i have something come up. been wanting to drive truck for almost 25 years but with kids and other things had to put it off. now looks like the time to pursue my dream for me.
