Roehl has a drop yard in Jacksonville, not a terminal. However, this company is pretty great and Jacksonville isn't a area that will provide them problems getting you home. Occasionally they might run into Florida being dead on freight but give it a day or so and that will clear up. Roehl does provide CDL Training at a cost, or free if you sign a contract. Those answers are best provided by a recruiter, since most answers here can be twisted with false information. Recruiters are your best bet for detailed information on training.

This company has alot of drivers who has been with them for over 2-3 years and they plan on staying with them. Common issue is newer drivers joining on with a closed mind thinking that trucking is UP to the drivers choice when in all reality it is the company who decides where you go. (Forced Dispatch). So coming in with a closed mind will surely land you with hatred for either Roehl or trucking in general. Always, and I mean always, understand that is not a 100% steady pay job. Some weeks you will do poorly in miles because of the areas your in, and some you will do amazing. Some weeks are consistent, some aren't. Understanding that will help you fit into this lifestyle better. You eat, breathe, and live trucking when your out on the road since that is all you can pretty much do.

Roehl is a great company to begin with. I have chosen to stay with them because despite the negative feedback I've heard from drivers mouth, they are great. Drivers tend to complain about small things making them bigger then what they are so always be careful when asking for advice on company's at Truck stops.

Well said, I've only been here a few months but so far this is a great company. The drivers lounges are def not the place to learn about the company, def little hills turned into mountains.

I noticed the OP's (Jags) last post dealt with his "clutter" issue! I think I got rebuked by him twice over it.

I think the difficulty is that any thread titled "My...experience" is going to become "Our...experience" over time, just by default. Anyone who really wants the thread to be just about their Roehl experience should title it "<Forum ID's> Roehl Experience."

On another note, I had my DOT physical six days ago and haven't heard anything back from Roehl on my RDTC start date since then (I sent the recruiter an email letting her know that they should be getting the results). I hope there isn't an issue with hiring (which would probably also affect RDTC admissions) due to freight slowdown, fiscal cliff, or similar issues. I can imagine how harrowing it must be to be running a business in this environment. I was really looking forward to joining the Roehl team.

Did you leave the doc with your new med card? if so, there shouldn't be a problem there.

Yeah, Im hoping the 3 week "freeze" created enough of a backlog for new drivers that my Dec. 31st Ellenwood orientation is a definate GO. My recruiter is supposed to call me the 26th with final travel details (car rental). I think its safe to assume we are in the slowest time of year for freight.
Now regarding the "cliff", that's a different matter!:biggrin_25513:

Yep, left the doc office with my 1-year med card in hand. Had heard about a shortage of tractors, etc. and could imagine the company thinking about capital expenditures and trying to match that up with freight demand going into the new year. Crazy times for business projections in general!

I hope I'm not interrupting this thread in a wrong way... 44y.o. male from michigan, divorced, no reason that I can't be out for extended periods from home, love to drive, want to see country, gonna go otr for sure. Have been pre accepted to Roehl, Prime, Swift.... After 26yrs. of Government work I'm done with that... How is the Roehl CDL School, training process? want to go solo and van div after training. Is Roehl better than the Swift deal? I'm not impressed with Prime...no van, looks like they want new drivers to leases...seriously. Swift school costs like twice as much as Roehl. Swift reputation seems much less than Roehl for company driver. I've got 15 years to get through til my city pension kicks in... any advice??
